Any preferences for Futures over FCS?\nI have Futures ATM & just had my second finbox replaced @ $140 a pop. Do the fins break on the FCS before destroying the fin box, suppose it all depends on what & how you hit.

Topple, Maybe you should be asking “Just Spectacles” vs “Specsavers”

FCS do break before the box gets ripped out.
Tho in saying that i have ripped out every box and the cheaper fins snap at the drop of a hat.
Never tried futures but i will next board......

Hi Toppleover,

I prefer Futures personally and yes I have rolled the odd fin box. Usually when hitting dry reef.

I have also used FCS and am not a big fan. I've snapped FCS fins in a hard fast bottom turn and when the board has washed up on the beach sideways

Both fin Systems have a great range of choice. I think the strength of the box comes down to how it was installed to a degree.

The new plus for FCS are better but the plugs aren't the problem IMHO, it's the fin base tabs.

If you hit reef straight on while kiting, either fin box will rip out. Side impact then sometimes FCS fins snap at the tab.

I do most of my own repairs, and for me it's FCS.

Hit reef with Futures or the FCS Fusion (peanut shaped) boxes and you've got a nasty repair job because both boxes are fitted underneath the glass - they rip out the box and delaminate the surrounding glass. The older style FCS plugs are much easier to repair as they are fitted through the glass and usually rip out reasonably cleanly.

FCS fins are cheaper than Futures
FCS has a better and wider range of fin shapes and sizes
FCS is no longer covered by patent so you can get cheap copies
Futures boxes are easier to fit at manufacture

I also perfer to use just one type of fin box if possible so I can use the range of FCS fins I already have. So to a large extent it depends on what your after.

Cheers guys, I guess everything has +,s & -,s I will try harder not to hit anything but sh1t happens.
Thinking back I hit a couple of submerged logs after last flood...was surprised the fins were still attached.

Special thanks to Slack for his insight.

Probox, longer base than FCS (no tabs), box will also fit standard FCS fins.
