Bonna Point road access.
I posted the following message to Sutherland Shire's email contact page this morning (Mon 11th Dec) and I urge other interested kiteboarders to do lodge a similar message:

As a committed kiteboarder, I utilise Bonna Point frequently. Early last week, I was shocked to be confronted by a Council Officer, who 'suggested' that I move my vehicle 'as he was about to lock the gate.' I felt his manner was inappropriate as I did his intention. Although I agree with some of his motivation, the methodology was totally inappropriate and offensive. I'm not surprised that Council has subsequently received many complaints and has responded by reopening the gate. Thankyou. Should you require input from a Shire resident who has an interest in preserving this area, yet feels it should be made available for appropriate public access, kindly feel free to contact me again, preferably by email. Thanks, Frank Towsey

Well done!!! Great to know that the access is granted again. Now it's up to us not to give them any good reason to close it....

Must have been messed up cabron, you are not even spelling your own name correctly.
Today is shaping up for some more fun over at Towra.
Was headed over to Kurnell for a beer with stumpy, but it was just so nice at Towra, and everytime I ventured near Quibray, the wind was just so gusty and the water was chopping up so bad I just stayed at Towra and soaked up the smooth water.

Bonna Point gate locked again!!!!!
Have sent Council the following spray and ask interested kiters to send similar messages. Sutherland Shire Council have a very user'friendly' email response site, so feel free to cut and paste, then alter to suit, the comments below and send them:

I've just returned from Bonna Point (approx 1:00pm Mon 11th Dec) and to my disappointment and frustration, I was unable to enter the road area West of the boatramp because, once again, the gate is locked.
Council, what are you doing???
Due to your lack of consideration, a group of kiteboarders was forced elsewhere, to a location which is likely to bring complaints from local residents...the very reason we moved to Bonna Point.
For goodness sake, can someone from Council enter into discussions with interested parties BEFORE making 'hit and miss' decisions? Surely as rate-paying Shire residents, we are entitled to this courtesy. We await a response with interest.

Shhesh - maybe we need to overthrow the current rulers of KKK land to restore some sanity to that place?

KKK'ers get your house in order please!

Apparently the reason it has been locked is because of 4WD's driving along the beach. I have never seen a "NO 4WDing" sign anywhere in that vicinity. Perhaps in Council's Infinite wisdom a sign might have been a good idea before locking the whole world out of the entire area.

Could some one please post the Council's phone number so that all interested parties could ring them for a friendly chat.

Just tried to ring the chap at Council. His voicemail says he is unavailable until the 14th.
I have left a message asking him to call me to discuss the Bonna Point gate closure.
It would be VERY helpful if more kiteboarders call this chap and leave messages.
If I hear from him, I'll post 'highlights' of the discussion on this thread. If this comes to pass, it's likely to be my shortest posting ever!!!!!

I received a call late yesterday, not from Gwyn, but his offsider, who turns out to be the bumptious little fellow who came to Bonna Point to lock the gate early last week. He is an arrogant, obnoxious clown, who had the audacity to accuse me of attempting to bribe him, when I warned him, that if he didn't meet with us to discuss this issue (which initially he wasn't prepared to), that we would publicise his and Council's intransigence. His claim is that Council had consulted with interested parties (i.e. local residents, the local Catamaran Clubs etc) and the time for consultation is over and Council has made its decision. Of course, he would not concede that it's the actual users of the area who are the MOST interested parties....and funny thing (ha! ha!) they were omitted from the consultation process! The upshot of the conversation is that we are to write a letter to Council stating our case for the gate to be left unlocked during daylight hours. I've put a call in to big Col to request that the letter be written and sent on behalf of us all. I suggest a copy be sent to The Leader so as to make it clear to this fellow that we mean what we say. Col, please confirm that you can get this done for us. Thanks mate!

sounds like a plan - I reckon we should all sigh this letter as a petition of sorts to add some weight to our request.

Either that or make the letter available on-line so all each of us need to do is print, sign, and post it off to our favourite council official

Bonna Point Gate Progress Report.
Col rang me yesterday and asked me to draft a letter to Council which I emailed him yesterday. His intention is to ask Uber (NSWKA) to send it on our behalf.
Glenn got a return call from the 'head gatelocker' who appears to be conceding that he may have to talk to us and maybe concede some ground.

Galah (whoever you are!), I think your idea is an excellent one and I'm hoping Col will post the final draft on this forum so that all of us can individually paste and copy it onto the Council's email contact site.

sounds like a good idea - as long as I can take my "enforcers" along. Here's a recent picture of me with them, I'm the one in the middle!

Seriously I reckon a delegation of local residents will have more effect - the rest of us might be seen as "part of the problem".

Get them to sort out the fishermen who are always on the inside of the point - isn't that illegal. How dare they put fishing lines in our flat water!

I have recently had what I could term ... a positive discussion ... with the Director of Sport and Rec at Sutherland Council re the "GATE" issue at Kurnell.
I was able to provide him with good and valid reasons to keep it open during daylight hours. He is going to look into the matter in further detail ... so fingers crossed.
I will keep you posted.
