Hi everyone,
On this topic can you please commment on the following:
1. Geraldton Blast 2003....feedback on the event, as we are well underway in planning the 2004 event, this year we are looking at a more "fun" focus with events like course racing/downwind race/ X racing and of course freestyle. We are also looking at having it closer to our "favourite spots" rather than at Pt Moore, more information will follow as the details are finalised. We understand the judging was pretty difficult for some people and we apologise for that, we have tightened up on that area already.
2. 2004 Nationals. We are putting together our proposal and we have been meeting as a club each fortnight for the past few months to get things squared away on all issues for 2004. The Nationals have come up and the club has decided to put forward a proposal to run the comp. We would like to have the WAKSA/AKSA members give "realistic" input as to what you would like us to consider in putting forth a proposal for the event.
We would like to be of assistance to AKSA and WAKSA in running the Nationals as we have such a great infastructure up here and great conditions, it would be a shame to have a comp elsewhere that doesn't do the title "NATIONALS" justice.

Hi Gav,
I thought Point Moore was a fantastic spot for the comp, so much so I reckon it's a prime candidate for the '05 Nationals. Where to and why are you considering moving it?
At first I thought being run in conjunction with windsurfing it would be a nightmare, but as the safety boats did stints with us kiters and then stinits out with the windsufers it meant there was heaps of time for free-riding between heats. This was great; a comp with heaps of time to kite.
The Cadets were a great idea and they seemed to enjoy it. Some were more apt at launching than others, but that's easily rectified...
Although I, and I think a number of others, thought you guys were being over nervous on the safety factor at first, it turned out to be really good. E.g The rescue boat was moving towards down kites within the 10 seconds.
A well run event, fingers crossed for the same beautiful winds next time...

Thanks Jess,
Firstly on moving the Blast. We have decided that supporting the Shire that supports us should be our first priority. The Point is a fantastic venue, hence us attempting to have the Nationals there maybe.
The Shire of Chapman Valley has spent HUGE money on getting Coro's up to scratch and the users are nearly all windsurfers and kiters, they contact us regularly before doing any capital works out there to guage our input and give us notice of grants that are available to us for that region. They are right behind the region becoming known and more popular as it generates income for their shire. They are keen to be involved in an event out there so we thought "let's make it happen".
The Pt. is my first choice for a comp venue but it's not such a great place to run a wave event, Coronation is. Also it's a great place for a comp, it's a larger area so kiters can freeride as much as they want downwind.
Thanks for your feedback Jess, look forward to seeing you up here in the last week in Nov.?

Gav,
Good point about Coronations being better for waves. From my flu-hazed memory of the place you don't need boats or scaffolding (aka Lancelin) to judge from and it is good for everyone else on the beach to be able to see. Happy to support the shire, so nice to have a shire that actually likes kites...
