Hey
My girlfriend is pretty keen to start out (fn awesome I know!)
Anyway, just wondering if any of the girls out there would suggest a good harness...especially those using smaller harnesses?
She has tried and liked the Flying Objects Sapphire harness (small) but it was a little too big.
Girls prolimit harness?
Cheers
Dan

My wife loves her kite girl pro limit harness, and I know other girls who have gone for the small mens. Depends on body shape. Solid and comfortable. Pelican Point Windsports have them. Laters.

Have been using a small mens North for the past year. I really like the higher back which add to the support of your lower back. Found it to be more comfortable than the Dakine I had before.

I Have a ProLimit Kite girls Waist in XS , I'm really pleased with it. I've had it for a year and a half now.

It's comfortable and doesn't ride up too much or poke in your ribs. I found the S was too big as I couldn't do it up tight enough (at the time!). I also tried the Dakine ladies but the metal buckles kept poking me when the kite was high. I had tried mens ones but they were too big.

It's defo worth trying on a couple as we are all different shapes, but i would recommend a girls one if she has a small/narrow waist as they'll fit more snuggly and not ride up.

I went for the waist type as the seat type was really uncomfortable for me and restricted my legs. But some people love them. it's worth trying on a few of all types.

Hope that's of some help.

Hey Kiterdan,

If she doesn't have a preference for seat or waist, encourage her to go seat. Only because I think there is more choice for small girls with the seat harnesses. The most important thing is that when she buys one, she tries it on and hangs by the hook from a rope in the kite shop. Remember the pull will be upward (kite near neutral) alot when learning. If you don't find a comfortable one - be patient! (I learnt this the hard way).

I currently have 2 waist harnesses, both are good, but took me a few months to find them.

1. XS dakine - dakines spreader bars usually ride up over the padding digging into the ribs painfully, but they have brought out a spreader bar now with a hook that levers upwards when the kite is high, thus preventing the spreader bar moving upwards. works well for me. Its slower to do up as it has 2 buckles to tighten on each side. It is short top to bottom, which means it fits between the ribs and the hip bone for a snug fit.

2. Sm prolimit girls - this one is better tapered into the waist and a bit longer top to bottom. It does up quickly and easily with the prolimit lock - for this reason I prefer this one, but when I ride toeside the chicken loop slides out sometimes.

Good luck!

I got a womens' dakine seat harness and it is super comfy, mainly because it was the one that sat the lowest at the back. It is a bit too big - you really can't do them up tight enough in the shop, and everything gets a bit stretched in the water. I put my own spreader bar and release on it because I don't like that 'pull and hook in' arrangment they have (it feels a bit perilous going toeside and one of my friends says hers pops out sometimes) and also I have a release on my spreader bar that I wanted to keep.

And as for learning...I agree that you are gonna spend a lot of time with the kite over head, but nothing will feel comfy like this, so better to get one, hang upside down in it for a bit and then buy the one that fits best.

And they will have them small enough - like most clothing manufacturers, dakine seem to think that all women are the size of eight year olds. (Someone should point out to them that your average woman is slightly wider than a baby's head. Duh.)

Thanks for the replys.
She had tried the seat harnesses but wasn't the biggest fan...preferred the waist!
We'll check out it out.
Cheers

It sounds like your girlfriend has a small waist! I use a small flying objects saphire waist harness with a short spreader bar (i have Dakine) that pivots at the hook. Having a short spreader bar allows me to pull the harness tighter around my waist. When buying a harness - just ensure that the hook is compatible with the safety system you are using. Good luck!
