Does anyone know if you need a 4WD to get to Gnarloo and the surrounding breaks?
I've got a decent Subaru liberty wagon AWD but it's no hardcore 4WD...
Thinking of going in August (I know its not the windy season but would be more for surfing)
Any other tips/advice welcome.
Thanks

outback should have no problems anywhere around there, except if u ignore the signs and try the track to turtles

rd from canarvon hard pack thru to gnaraloo station entrance
then corrugations and a few lillte sand drifts

towed my boat there (gnaraloo bay) last year without a problem
plenty of caravans a the camp
those wicked rentals appear on a regular basis too

if it rains-well u may need some help on road/in out as a few depressions that can fill up and get real muddy

Hey Maramu,

The track in/out is usually graded pretty well and is fairly hard albeit corrugated. If you go early August, as I did a year or two back for surfing, there may be a bit of rain around which creates some pretty big puddles on the main track. I'd be a little wary going through big puddles in your Subi, I found a couple of them a bit deep which was OK in the Patrol, but in a soft roader may be a bit scary, especially if you hit em fast.

The tracks from Red Bluff to 3 Mile to Homestead and Gnaraloo Bay are easy and a 2WD will get through, but as someone said, you will need a more serious 4WD to get to Turtles.

We may even see you up there in August??? Have fun!

Good waves,

We went up there first week in August last year in a 2003 falcon wagon. Our Commodore crapped out on the way up so we hired this Falcon.
We had no troubles whatso ever but in saying that, it was a hire car and they are known to be the best off road vehicles!!
