Trying to make a decision between purchasing either the Go Pro or Contour HD.

Use: Kiting, Mountainbiking, Snow, everything else.

So far they both are similar price/value for money.

What is your opinoin/advice/feedback on comparison?

The majority seem to use the Go Pro....

Thanks

Go the Drift HD or Drift HD170 Stealth. Fantastic camera with remote, makes the editing easier and like the contour has a rotatable lens. You can also get an aftermarket waterproof bag. I have one and love it, would buy another and highly recommend it.

I got the contour+ and used it for skiing. It take brilliant shots and the iphone app makes setup a cinch. I have the underwater case but haven't used it yet. My brother has the drift and gopro and uses them for hang gliding. He swears by the drift, it doesn't fog up like go pro can and the remote makes it easy for that sport. I wanted the smaller form factor, so went for Contour.

There's a new drift coming out with a smaller size?

The Contour with the built in GPS would be awesome, but it doesn't come with a waterproof housing and would be too bulky even if it did.

GoPro has lots of nice accessories that you can play with.

Both cameras are wicked, just gotta choose which one suits your needs best.

Contour is simply more user friendly to use. No fiddly menu to navigate. Waterproof case is extra but works well.

Another vote for the Contour here.
I've had my ContourHD with it's waterproof housing for almost two years now and have got some great footage from it. The waterproof housing doesn't really add much to it in terms of size but does add a bit to the cantilever of the camera mount. This has only ever been a problem for me when i've got it attached to the side of my helmet (skiing, snowboarding, etc). When i'm not using the waterproof housing you can forget that it's there and just get on with the fun.

I've used mine on my car with a suction mount, on the side of my harness with the goggle strap mount, on the kite with a dodgy custom mount i made, on the side of my helmets, and even just hand held by strapping it to the top of your arm and doing your best spiderman impersonation to get your wrist out of the way.

Some people love the GoPro's, but i dislike the brick style. Contour for me all the way.

I use the go pro hd helmet hero you cant go wrong with that one

i use them to make a lot of kite movies and all round day today stuff
there is a lot of setting u can pic from
for more info go to there web page
the waterproof case is very strong even when it is on my kite and
i crash it in to the water she still all good to go
i guess it come down to what u would like and how much u have to spend
i cant say much about the contour as i have never use one

Breakzmaker I would be keen to know which one you end up getting. I have had a GoPro Hero 5 for a few years now and have been happy with the camera for kiting, but I did a recent Firmware upgrade from GoPro and it screwed my camera up (now junk), and there was no warning on the GoPro site that this is a possibility, and with very little back up from the company. Great camera but not impressed with the after market handling by GoPro.
On principle I am also looking at the Drift HD Stealth as a replacement and the Youtube vid on the wakeboarding is pretty good - looks like an alternative. My mate has the GoPro HD Surf and he has had problems with fogging in the housing - tomstheword - do you get any fogging problems? and is there any difference in quality of the video with the extra lens cover - appreciate the feedback

Have had a couple of fogging issues with the drift due to charging the battery in very humid climate. The battery is charged in the camera with a USB cable and while that is happening the insides are not sealed. I have used the camera in all weather and wind and am very happy with it's ability to keep water out in use, just the charging issue. I haven't used a waterproof bag as the camera is water proof to half a meter on it's own, would be fine on a kite. I have the stealth but they have just released a newer version which is much smaller. They have also added a second cover on the back to keep it sealed while charging which would fix the fogging problem. They really are a great camera with the LCD screen making menu use straight forward (try the gopro without the manual), instant review of footage and lining the camera up simple.

I don't sell them but sometimes wish I was on commission.

tomstheword,
Tks for the positive feed back. As you say the Drift has the new smaller HD on the market, hence why there are some good deals around on the Stealth.
Aside form the similar performance to the GoPro, what is really swaying me is the remote control capability.
Tks
