i dont think windows movie maker will support the codec that the go pro records images to.

you might need to go here:

www.tapatalk.com/groups/goprouser/ and do some thread surfing.

on a mac - you will have no problems !

Dont fret - you will get it sorted.

If your windows pc is a bit of an older model you will struggle as the Go Pro image codec is very compressed (but amazing quality for the file sizes)

Thanks RF. So does this mean I'm going to have to spend more $$$ getting software to be able to edit & add a sound track? If so any recommendations that arnt over the top price wise? Or is there something for free i can download?

OH i do a few other sports too like snowboarding< im going to NZ for snowboard trip & im doing heli boarding & a few other things so i would like to capture with my GoPro to make a short vid of the carnage . im looking forward to doing a bit of snowkiting aswell . So it wont be too bland i hope, lol, i have to workout how to edit before i bore you all.

I use Windows Live movie maker. Works perfect with Gopro. Pretty simple program, but if you aren't trying to be spielberg, it will do 90% of what most people need.

yep as the boys say you need a grunty pc..... the files are massive and compressed to hell. if you on a 2 year or older machine i guess your probably stuffed. as stated you need the correct codec. to play on windows media player. Also you need a pile of ram.

I edit on adobe elements. but its not the best.

Some hints. record different angles. as many as you can. board, helmet, line, kite, tripod. endless helmet cam is very hard to watch.

where possible do 10min max recording this limits the files size and makes for easier playback and editing.

decide what setting output you want. i record in 720p I can't see the difference in qaulity on my TV and lap top.

PS editing is a bitch it takes hours and hours to edit a small segment.... i recently edited this mountain bike trip at it took me about 20 hours.




Last peice of advice. Get a dedicated external hard drive as yourl end up with hundreds of gig of footage. I took 55gig on that one week mountain bike trip.
