Yes! Where do we get flat water in a Westerly in Perth though?

I think the guys in Namibia were working on an artificial speed strip at one stage, don't know what came of that. Unless it was just talk at the bar there, they don't really need it with the setup they've got.

Anyway I start a FIFO (Fly In - Fly Out for the uninitiated) roster next week for three months, I will have a bit of break time to look at locations, virtual gates, gear, software, web presence...

Ultimately I'd like to return to Namibia for the speedweek one year to compete, although they don't get the results GPS sailors get it's a more talked about world record, plus they pour a mean jaegermeister...

We need at least a 500m strip with reasonably flat water and run-in/run-out areas. This looks ok as long as it doesn't get too choppy on the South end.



Woodies would be great in the Southerly, but the traffic there..?

I might get onto the poleys and see if they've got any virtual gate setups anywhere around we could 'borrow'. But I better get some paying work done first, bad seabreeze...

I would be interested to set something up and the spot on a southerly... or at safety bay.

so thats where all the water from the de-salination plant is going, straight to the biggest mutha farker swimming pool they could build.

I don't know about the poleboarders but with speed kiting to shed speed you need a fair bit of downwind space at the end of your run. The highest speed runs are got when you sail about 110-120 degrees from the wind direction (so heading just downwind), then to slow down you bear directly downwind. From that photo I'd be dubious as to its suitability.

There's also access which may be an issue... Liability and all that...

only surfed and fished it,
heading up there this winter again for a week or two,
hopefully get a day or two out then if conditions are good

I know the spot you are referencing spacy, its an old poley speed strip, and you will probably be seeing a few of us blast through there this winter ..... just keep an eye out

They are upwind on a seabreeze tho.
And the straight line long course lake makes the sea breeze a cross offshore about 1 or 200m's from the clear cross-on side.
Long way inland tho - seabreeze doesnt always make it.

Saw your photos, the pond there is a good spot to Speed sail, In summer you can also flick over to point Grey on the other side.

It gets a bit shallow for us Polies 1/3rd of the way accross on a low to mid tide as we start dragging fins through the mud but a kite would breeze it.

The Run would be close to 500m long and quite flatish with nothing to hit in case you come unglued (allways a bonus)

well you get dead flat runs at peli on anything with south in it, easily a 10 second run. unfortunately its straight through the calm zone now :(

only place ive had a faster run is on the sandbar at safety bay (curves real sweetly to a broad reach on a sw)
