Hey,

I just moved to around the Botany Bay area near Brighton, and have bought myself a practice kite to learn to fly. I am starting to look out for my first real kite, as I think I am ready to make the transition into body-dragging in the near future.

I have seen quite a few different styles while browsing (crossbow, slingshot and others), and am wondering what are the best for around here and if anyone can reccomend me a few good brands.

I am willing to spend up to $1000 just on the kite (although preferably keep it to around $800). I weight around 74kg and am 5 feet 9.

Is there a difference between styles depending if you want air, ride on waves, speed etc.

I have been a surfer my whole life, so once I have mastered still water (which probably won't be this season I gues), then I will probably spend most of my time kiting with waves at Cronulla, Maroubra etc........if that makes a difference to the style I should get??

Thanks, hope to see you guys out in the water asap

Hi Tom

Read all the replies you get and then come and hit me up with all the info down at the Sans Souci Kitepower store?
I do have some used kites in that price range, but I also have some nice new ones for a bit more.
Depending on your abilty and the time you can spend learning you could easily be in the waves at Wanda on the smaller days for sure this year/season.
Hook up with the local crew they will steer you straight, you may even score a good used kite??

Cya and

Goodwinds
