hay shauno it is a short but intense journey. Ya need to set aside a couple of arvos mate so ya might have to shell out some cash for lessons. It is full on at the start, it is not like surfing were any old gumby can have a crack. Have alook at the accident section.
hate to have to read about you on the front page of the news paper

go to your local spot, launch a few guys, have a chat, get someone to give you some pointers when you launch.

and be aware that one lessons not really enough to be considered safe on the water.

shauno welcome to the sport.
What the guys are trying to say is you are one of many that turn up at the beach with a lesson under your belt and wanting to get going.
Now that was fine a few years ago but in some places you need to be a bit careful of local issues that may be in place. Some beaches may have had problems and the kiters their need to make sure they don't lose their beach, the only way to find out is to talk to a few of the locals and listen to what they say. Sort out the BS on what really happens at the beach and try and fit in as best you can.
You may be right and be a quick learner but you need to make sure you work in with the flow of everybody and not do anything that puts you and others in danger. I know this sounds anal but at some locations that's how it is.
It's the little things like rigging up so you don't cross lines, keeping your kite low when passed by someone up wind, don't hog the beach. And when your told your kite is to much for the conditions be prepared to pack up and go home.
In one way I think your right about getting help but just make sure if the people you ask say get more lessons then do that.
Good luck

If you're a newbie doing beach drags then you don't know enough to keep yourself safe

Rule #1: Do all your playing on the water. You should only be launching and landing on the beach (if you have to!)

If you tell people where you live, someone might offer to meet you on the beach..

Hey Shauno,

The guys are dead right. You need at least 2x 2hr lessons before anyone would even come near calling you safe and responsible and that usually still isn't enough to get you on the board. No one is usually friendly to a person turning up at their local beach with more enthusiasm and ego than skills and common sense.

I strongly suggest you visit a reputable school (preferably with IKO qualified instructors) and get a further lesson. Its a big short cut to progressing safely.

Let us know what city you are in and we can advise you of the local schools and shops who can help.

Best regards and good wind,
