Anyone else around Melbourne area get hit by a hectic gust this afternoon after the change? Not sure if we were the only ones, but damn that wind was strong.

It was the only good bit of wind to come through Altona, "short but sweet"

I'm not talking about the wind that picked up to 25 knots, that was nice, but at Brighton about 45 minutes to an hour after the switch we had a hectic 40 knot gust that came through, then the wind just settled back to 25 again. Only two of us were out at the time.

Wind must have been better at Brighton, didn't get to Altona till 3.30 and left 7.00. Had about 20-30 min of 21-24 knts around 6.00 and that was it, other than that, it was up and down like a wh0res panties.

I went out at Brighton in the Northerly for a short kite (5 minutes) before the wind died and the southerly switch came in. Landed the kite and then moved all my gear up the beach to the southerly launch area and waited a little while till the southerly settled a little coz I know it tends to be gusty. A frenchman on a 9m Cab Bow went out and was having fun, and I joined him shortly afterwards on my 12. Bam, heavy gust hit and the poor french guy was forced to abandon his board and hit shore doing 60km/h body dragging (and that was on a 9m) but someone landed his kite and he was okay but looked a little shaken up.

I was on my 12m and managed to get in to shore on my board and landed my kite but it was no picnic even if the kite at the edge of the window max depower, it was moving around because the wind was switching between W and SW every 10 seconds. (didn't help that my leading edge wasn't hard enough - i left it a little soft because of the high temps). One of the guys who landed us said he saw a massive dust storm on the beach from the sand being blown everywhere at the when the gust hit.

Then it just settled back to 20-25 again and the guys went out kiting again, but i decided to call it a day and I noticed the frenchman did the same. It was still blowing when I left and that was 45 minutes later.

Might have been the gust that nearly blew me little corolla off the ring road on the way to Altona.

No one injured, so a good day aye.

We just got nice wind all day from about lunchtime.

But no waves. at least I could get to check on my car in the car park.

How's Han's foot?
prime example of why not to launch up on the footpath.

when wind cranked up that extra notch, switched to the real mens sport.

Don't I feel like a woosy kitesurfer now.
