All right ive reached the peak of lazyness as I found a new toy to pump up my kite and I was wonder what is the recomended PSI for a kite? See you can have a set point, turn on and walk away and come back to a pumped kite= Awesome hey!

So I not after the ping test etc, just numerical figure.

Thanks in advace!

P.S $100 buck at bunnings for any other sloths out there

6 psi is a soft surf pressure ?? between 6 and 10 is normal ping test pressure ? Above 10 psi is just hard work with a manual pump and never recommended for a kite !!
So I do hope the pressure gauge on your bunnings special is half accurate !! maybe set it a few PSI below 8 PSI and see how accurate it is?? Would be an absolute prick if it blew ur kite up !!

... hahahaha, go ahead if ya wanna pump up a kite that takes nearly forever, and forget attempting a man sized kite like a 17m.

Don't waste ya good money, put it towards one of them Island pumps!!

One of the newbies here turned up with one,,,,, took like 5 weeks to get to 2 psi and then had to hand pump the rest! Sure it does a good job some where some how, just not for pumping up a kite.!!!!

Robbie :)

The recommended pressure depends on your kite, some manufacturers recommend only 6 PSI, others 8, some a bit more.
Getting used to the ''folding test'' can be more accurate than a pressure gauge or a ping test. At the right pressure, your kite's leading edge should be difficult to fold in half (but not impossible to fold), meaning you can still bend it in half but you need to use a good amount of force.

A lot of people are worried about bursting their kites from over inflation...this is more than unlikely as any major kite manufacturer test their kite's by over inflating them to pressures above 30-40PSI before they burst. Think about it, when your kite crashes hard the pressure momentarily increases to way above 10 PSI, that's why good kites don't burst easily even when crashed very hard.

Check the specs well before you buy.dedicated kite electric pumps have two stage pumping ,high volume low pressure then low volume high pressure otherwise you'll be waiting a long time for the kite to be inflated

They don't pump too pressure on the big outlet, only on the car, bike, ball outlet.... so after buying one and
getting sick of changing to hand pump... which last about a season or so... bought an Island pump. Way cheaper than
replacing those crappy
hand pump which blow seals cause they get too hot when blowing up kites too pressure especially
in warm climates.

PS. Not pimpin products!

Island pumps can get direct cause some dealers advertise on their website but won't get you 1!

Hi you will be waiting 1/2 hour while everyone is kiting .
those pumps are slow (not volume pumps) but are high pressure pumps for car tyres etc.
Ive tried everything on the market and still come back to the old hand (bravo ) pump.

I bought one of the Island pumps from a dealer in QLD and am very happy with it. The main reason for buying it, is I have a inflatable surf SUP and it's hard work to get up to 12 PSI! This pump does it in 6 minutes, automatically. I tried it on my 12 metre North Rebel, which states 6 PSI max by the valve, and it did it in 4 minutes. Very impressed! These links show the pump and my ISUP.

The main reason an Island pump is better is because they are a dual stage pump.

So they blow up larger volume quickly at low pressure, then automatically switch over to a high pressure pump which is slower but high pressure

Car tyre pumps = slow at large volume but good at high pressure
Cheap low pressure pump = reasonable job on large volume but just cant get the pressure for a kite so you will be stuffing around and have to pump more with hand pump anyway = everyone else getting out before you.
