Just got my 14m 09. The build quality is good. The struts have full length reinforcing, the bridle is made of better diameter rope and the pulleys are ronson graphite with bearings and a stainless swivel. I dumped mine into bushes during a wind shift the second time I used it. It went leading edge down hard enough to snap 3/4 in branches off the bush. The leading edge hit but didn't even mark, the canopy got a 4-5 inch tear in it and a couple of smaller ones. It actually held up very well given the circumstances. I would say the quality is as good as you'll get and almost as good as a Flexifoil. The thing flies very well, turns nice and feels good at the bar. I'm 100kg and ride a 136 Aboard, a 129 Thorn and a 6'8 surfboard and it gets me going in about 10 - 12 knots on the surfboard but needs about 15 plus for the Aboard and a little more for the Thorn. Its a great kite, good quality and you get a free board. PM me for more info if you want.

The kite itself is nice although a mate of mine does alot of wave riding and has a one kite quiver if the wind is on he will sniff the wind out and go kiting like my Jack Russell sniffs out rabbits , what we have seen is the two centre panels will get alot line markings which looks like the resin is breaking down and what happens after about a year of kiting the canopy will tear.We think maybe its because the kite turns from the centre which causes extra stress on the centre panels causing this but apart from that they are great kites.

But in saying that my kites having two of them show no sign of this but I dont kite as much as him and do share the load between two kites. As for build quality Cabrinha and Naish are of high standard.

I've got a 9 and a 12 on the way. Build quality looks great and I have been told the 09 helix is so different from the 08 it should have been renamed.

I highly doubt they'll have the snapping bridle problems the earlier naish kites had as the pulleys (only two on the kite not 6 like my 07 boxer) are heaps bigger and the line they run though is the same stuff used for pigtails.

not sure about the 09 models, but the year before the bars were falling apart. when you pull the bar in for power the red plastic thing near the chicken loop hits the bar destroying the grip. it costs my mate $50 every six months to replace the cleat rope for the hole in bar destroys rope. laying a cab bar next to a helix bar of the same age is a funny thing to see for the cab rider, cause the cab bar is like new still and the helix bar is a mess. maybe they fixed the bar this year or they might be following suit with slingshot, making bars that fall apart after a short time year after year after year.
all kites are made well these days, its the bar that sets kites apart from each other when it comes to quality

The only gripe I've got with the Helix so far is the flagging line getting stuck in its holder. The knot is just way too big for the steel holder. A bit of a shocker it took me about 20 goes to get it out this arvo didn't want to self land without flagging as it was blowing well over 30kn and I was by myself.

It's a shocker as the kite is 4 sessions old they should have seen this problem a mile off and realised it's a major safety issue. I'm going to have to look into modifying it now - two bars and two Helix's. When I was trying to pull it out this arvo I was thinking I should be filming this as far as I'm concerned Naish should be offering parts to fix this for free.

You have 6 pulleys on your Boxer? Not counting the bar ones? I only have 4, I feel short changed! ;-)

haha its like putting a cab kite next to a naish kite after a two months and the naish kite is still like new and the Cab kite is well arrrr dull maybe and dont forget 2 pulleys compared to ummm arrr 8. Yes i do sell Naish and yes the depower rope dose wear out after 6 months of riding but if thats what it takes to keep the real feel in a kite then so be it. after 9 month on the same kite my bar is still as good as new so i guess they fixed the one weak point

09 models quality has improved, espescially the struts construction and reinforcing.

The point is that, every kite can be F'cked up - if handled inproperly, but Naish may hold on a little longer than others - thanks to all those reinforcements and upgrades.

Well the knot getting stuck for the flagging line doesn't happen anymore on my bars - I guess it needed a few more sessions for the knots to tighten up.

Build quality is excellent and many people have told me that they should have renamed the 09 helix as it's such a better kite than the 08 one. Those pulleys need a wash after every session though - i hang them out of the kite bag and wash them in the sink when I go home. They always get blocked up even after one sand launch/land.

In some ways the pulleys with bearings could be worse wear wise than the old simple ones once sand gets in them.
