Anyone rigged a camera for kiting...The type that uses mini DV cam or similar? Seen all the ads on the net for pre rigged systems...Cost is an issue...Just wondering if anyone locally has a DIY system they're using.

I stuck the top part of a tripod to a helmet and then put my camera on that. Used it on land a few times, footage was crap.

Hey,

It is pretty easy to make one, if you have an existing digital video camera with AV input (like Samsung or Sony).
You just need to buy a good quality 12V colour video cammera, like the ones used in security systems, use some plastic piping and here you have your own Helmet camera.
It took me 2 days to build it, and the rezults are good, very good I'd say.

Or you can spend lots of monney for a waterproof camera!

I have one that we are testing, it has been designed by a Kiteboarder and is water proof.

The guy that is importing them is
John Barbieri 03 9588 2994 or 0407345 756
Cost is about $400ish with transmitter and receiver and he has Kite mounts for the lines and helmet mounts.
An MP4 video recorder is about $250 from Harris Scarf, then upgrade the the memory card to a 1 Gig and you have about 1hour of recording and sound
