Helmets restict visibility, hearing and give a false sense of personal safety.

Hi All!

Here is my budget helmet...
www.seabreeze.com.au/gallery/gallery.asp?imageid=3374

It is a second hand kayak helmet, $20. I have had it for 3 years and I do not think I can break it. I have been glad to wear it at several occasions...

It absorbs shocks,
It offers clear visibility
It is comfy with sunnies, which stay in place even after epic and violent crashes that nearly knoked me out...
and I look so good in it

My wife has got a Gath. I do not think it will absorb shocks as well as my scratched rusty bicolored helmet.

ok, I do not care how it looks like, coz when I wear it, i know that i am about to touch lots of great fun...

I was initially looking for a helmet that could cover and protect my ears (could not find one at that price)... But listening to the wind in the lines when at full speed provides such a good feeling that I do not regret being able to listen to it!

and BTW
I wear an impact vest too!
and I fly a foil!!!

Hows the new impact vest Silviu? Put it to the water yet?

I say if you wear a board leash, wear a helmet! And there's no shame in doing that, it's your own life, and do you really need to care what others think or say? Just wear a stylish one, even a bike helmet is better than nothing.

When I go in the surf, I much rather have my board within reach when I come off the straps than trying to body drag around getting to board or to shore, worrying what that dark shadow is below ya We got the Oceanus board leash reels in stock, and they are the best of all we have come across to date. Anyone wanna try or demo them PM me!

One year ago if I was bringing such a subject, I wuld be "shut down" immediatelly by a chorus of "disgrunteled people sayng that Helmets anr PFD/impact vesta are gay, not necessary and make you look like Lord Vedar.
We came a long way, and I am pleased.
I am using helmet and PFD/impact vest from the day one (seven years ago, gee the time flys).
They helped me in several occasions so, the helmets and PFD/impact vests ARE GOOD.

Woo hoo watch the tone of this thread change now leashes are on topic.

I have used an Oceanus since day one and although have thought many times "must ditch this soon and get hardcore and stuff[}:)]" I have really enjoyed soooo much more quality time on the water. I have also had a bit more gumption to go for jumps etc.

Actually I shouldn't make fun. I have thought about not only my safety but others as well and I reckon these leashes are the business.

At least once a session i have a "so glad I have the leash on" moment or maybe a "this would might be a pack it in and head home situation" without the leash.

I would never never use a static style leash (surfboard style) as I think they are very dangerous indeed.

Yep i wear a helmet and a vest.

Yep I ALWAYS unleash (piece of proverbial with the Oceanus clip on) when on the shore.

Yep I generally kite and certainly only try to push my limits well away from other kites and punters. As good as they are at avoiding the owner, the leash may(?) be on a more dangerous tradjectomy for some near to you if you are getting lofted/kite spiral etc etc. worth keeping in mind.

Yep I look like a total dag. A smiling, riding more than body dragging, going for jumps, complete dag.

Looks good, thanks, however still not allowed to touch my kitesurfing gear and next week I may have the surgery. It is up to me when I go in the "lions" den.
And to be honest, the sooner, the better.
