Can I get some advise on what size board and kite to buy when starting out. I am five foot eleven and 110kg and just starting to learn.
What is the best type of kite to learn on?

Hi Reptile,

I think user want to make sure you're not one of those reckless self serving lunatics that would try buying and then flying a kite without proper instruction.

I'm sure thats not you as there are very few people that stupid and selfish any more.

For a 110kg rider in WA you should be looking for a 12m SLE to suit the stronger winds we are currently enjoying or go the whole hog and grab a 14m to be used on lighter wind days or earlier in the afternoon. The reason I say this is your next logical step down would be a 10m which will be the perfect sizing for a 2 kite quiver, and yes, you'll need two kites.

The board you should be riding would be around 142-144 x ~40cm Like the Switch 144. We do package deals for Flow SLE and Switch with Harny if you are interested.

All depends on where you want to ride.

Cheers and I hope this helps,

PS, Get lessons!

WEst OZ kiteboarding, I live in Adelaide but they are in WA and I get all my gear from them. They sell ocean rodeo and I have used 07 North rebel, Switchblade, liquid force (Stay away) to compare. Ocean rodeo is much better than others ive tried i love it! Also cheaper than any of the others, maybe "best" brand would be same price.

You shouldnt need your own kite for getting lessons, so learn how to fly a kite then demo one.
