Kitesurfing is an old man's sport, windsurfing is a young man's sport.
Hell of a lot harder to windsurf. That's why there are so many ex windsurfers kiting.
Just turned 40 and still doing both.

i'll never understand the 'it's harder so it must be better' argument.

it's harder to surf a 70's single fin than a new quad.

it's harder to catch a fish with a line tied to a stick than with a proper rod and reel

it's harder to row a dinghy than start up the outboard...

if kiting is quicker to learn and makes it easier to: get back up the line in the surf, get out in lighter winds, progress to complicated tricks, sail faster, carry & rig your gear, and travel than windsurfing, why would anyone suggest that windsurfing is better than kiting? other than nostalgia and novelty?

47 and into my 1st year

Also 53 this year, 61 was such a good year, sailboarder for 32 years, kiting now for about 11 years.... Have a good mate who kites at over 65 years...


Once tried to work out how much I had spent on these 2 sports over the years...... Maybe the topic for another thread??

All in all I am feeling quite young due to all the 'older peeps' on here

... 44 yrs old and kiting for 10 of them, kids make me feel older and kiting makes me feel younger so it all seems to equals out!

My Dad is 62 this year, and we tried kitesurfing together for the first time 10 years ago. He loves it!

53 in March, best thing I have ever done!!! Have met & made some fantastic friends.

51 and lovin it. Before I took it up I used to think it was only for under 35 year olds until I saw many kiters older than me packing up their kites. No doubt I take it more conservatively than if I was 22 given some pretty major injuries I carry, but that does not mean you can't get heaps of fun with it. kiting is a sport you can do to old age once you have the technique even with a dodgy joint or two, just like snow skiing and other board sports. Just look at the many old people that have lived in ski regions all their lives still skiing in their seventies and even eighties in some cases.

Nearly 41 started at 28, but so wish I was born later and was turning 20 and could push the limits. I'm getting tired of having three of four different ice packs on different parts of the body after each session, plus ultrasound, plus voltaren, plus having to tediously stretch morning and night to just stay on the water...and essentially always be in some manageable pain.

Plus never really having the balls to pull the moves I know I'm technically capable of but if they went wrong, my stupid body won't tolerate. Hence this creates some bloody confusing sessions.

Unlike some older crew here who just appreciate being able to kite at their age, I'm a totally frustrated mother farqer to be be quite honest with you. Gotta learn to age gracefully.
