Quick question.

Due to a very uncomfortable bout of tennis elbow I really need to shorten my Chicken Loop. It is way too long.

Do I undo the knott at the bottom of the chicken loop and shorten it there...or do I undo and shorten it from the top.?

Hi,

Either way you will need to shorten your back lines to account for the reduction in length of your frontlines. What kite and bar do you have?

Monkey kite and monkey bar:

I thought if for instance all the lines were taught, and the bar was all the way out, if you shortened the chicken loop from the bottom it wouldnt affect the length of the front and back lines as they would ALL come closer to you... ?

put an adjustable stopper on you chicken loop line to limit travel to where its comfortable then set depower strap to suit.

Yeh your right but you will limit the amount of power that you can apply to your kite. If this happens then you may need to adjust the back lines. If you still have sufficient sheeting after shortening the chicken loop well you are sweet.

Simply try out and ajust if need be.

So is the answer to always shorten the chicken loop from the bottom?

...and where can i get an adjustable ball stopper? I guess this would save me cutting the rope.

Either way, you are shortening the chicken rope. Therefore it doesnt matter if you shorten from the top or the bottom! Depending on your bar, it is easier to do it from the bottom though

seriously you should be able to work it out your self. Understanding how a kite, bar and lines work is quite important. I wouldn't risk my life on something I don't know.

Even if you **** it up by 3 inches you should have more than enough range in the depower strap to even it back up.

You can get an adjustable stopper ball from any slingshot dealer including Kitepower, they are not on the website yet, but we do have them in stock.
The easiest way to get the bar closer to you is to shorten your front lines, by adjusting your trim strap - pull it in - hey presto the bar is now closer!.
It makes no difference where you shorten a chicken line, but most bars it is easiest, and only possible where the chicken rope ties onto the trim strap or cleat above the bar or from the top.

It is important that all kiters know how to tune a bar though, it is not rocket science, and although there are a lot of confused opinion about bar tuning, it is really a very simple matter.
Call into a shop, see if they will help you (we do, for free) or look for someone at your local who looks like they know what they are doing and ask for some help.
