where is the $$%%&^&*& search function oh hang on, just spotted it.
Yea bud i got one 2. Grab someone on the beach to show ya. It might be easy for the super brains but i read the threads and i still struggle. (jesus lucky you do not have to read instructions to piss) Had to get pauli to show me, still not sure on the self launches cause i never practice them. I think you can grab something from the cab site. check it out for us and get back to me with report and recommendations.

Yea i seen one guy just hot launch the mother and just push out the bar
Stuff that two many near death experiences from my old c kite days

Hey Simon,

You are kidding us, are you?

Maybe you should have a look at this very good report regarding a recent accident:
www.fksa.org/showthread.php?t=5726

I would suggest you to get some lessons or at least to be supervised by an experienced bow kiter before attempting a self lauch.

Cheers,

Fred

to self launch my bow i walk backwards with the kite at the side of the wind window, when tension is applied to the lines the far wing tip pulls around while the centre of the kite curls over fills with air and self launches itself. so basically i pick up the bar and walk backwards.

to self land i dive the kite towards the sand and when it is 2 metres off the ground i pull in the centre lines with my hand and then pull the 'top' centre line, the kite flops over onto the ground as is depowered. done and done.

This is ludircus! It took 12 (twelve) sarcastic posts and 4 (four) days until Slyfox and clifor123 decided to post some commonsense!
This is bad, the guy could be already hurting himself, we name this Kitesurfing forum?
Better name it the Sarkaitisk forum!

ok, here is my update on the week end's kite surfing:
I took my new 17m Contra down to the beach and one guy said it was to strong as people where riding 10meter kites, he said it was blowing about 25knots. I weigh 75kg and when I bought the kite, the guy in the shop said I can ride in almost all conditions. It was a bit of a struggle to inflate the kite, but managed. After I took a bit of a break to catch my breath, I tried to drag the kite on the sand with the bar hooked into my seat harness and pull one of the front lines. I found this difficult, because I was being dragged down the beach and the front line was very far in fron of me. Some guy got in my way and we crashed, it was a big laugh, very funny...
Anyway, another guy launched my kite and it pulled me straight into the water and I crashed again. Question: How do you get on your board?

extracting anything useful from this forum is like panning for gold....you do find some nuggets of joy from time to time, but holy fk you need to sift through a lot of crap.

I did the same thing when learning. Funny.
Another couple hours and you'll be dead or you'll be kiteboarding.
Get some lessons.

I think I have learn't enough on the week end to be a competant kite surfer, not going to do any lessons as I think I will crash less next time, can you kite in the harbour as I have seen there can be some good wind there?

hey simon, you can kite wherever you like. a busy beach is good because there are more people to help you if things go pear-shaped.
just remember to make yourself heard to the swimmers and others on the beach before you crash. its a good idea to ask someone at random to help you launch and land your kite if no one else is around, rather than do it yourself.
if not, again make yourself heard before you drop the kite. people usually get out of the way.

The harbour is great - I hear it is a lot of fun kiting near the big yachts and they will always give way to you. Also, in the harbour it is much more fun being overpowered as you are very safe being so far away from land - so take your biggest kite...

...and remember - be safe and have fun.
