G'Day Everyone,
Thanks so much for your interest in the course. It would seem that we have 11 interested parties thus far and there are a few that I know of that haven't put their names in the hat as yet. This prompts me to possibly run two courses back to back of say between 6 and 8 persons per course.
I am thinking it will be better for us to run the courses in March 9 thru 13th for the first one, and the second course from 16th thru 20th. This gives everyone a chance to put some money together and organise First aid/cpr courses and get any boating license you may require. Ie if you plan on using a jet ski, you will need a PWC license and if you use a boat in any state other than WA you will need a power boat license.
I am not as worried about the boat license as I am about the CPR First aid. It is a prerequisite to beginning the course.
For details of what is requested of you as a minimum to attending an instructors course please visit the following link and read up the details.
http://www.ikorg.com/pro_career.php?menu_id=3About the course:
The course is run over a full 5 days starting on the Wednesday at about 9am we work each day through combinations of theory and practical assignments until around 5pm each day with a break of 45 minutes for lunch
There is approximately 3 days of theory and classwork with the remaining 2 days of full on hands on water training with boat skills practice and also live training situations with real students. As observers and instructors.
The course is very intense and covers an enourmous amount of theory and practical tips for all situations of instruction from Meteorology, tides, teaching principals, psychology, boat handling, tipos on running and setting up a school, working with multiple students etc etc. Like I said, very intense!. You will also be required to do a amall amount of homework and study. The course is designed for you to pass, but you have to earn it.
At the end of the course, provided you pass all sections of the course, you will be given a Level 1 Instructor Diploma which allows you to start training students in a school or on your own. You will also have automatic membership to the IKO and as such have access to kiteboarder insurances for schools and individuals and also the jobs page to find work abroad or interstate. it is very hard to work anywhere in the world without this qualification! If you fail to pass all areas of the course, you will be set tasks to help you improve your deficiencies to a satsfactory level before being given a diploma.
If you are under 18 please contact me with your birthdate and I will see what I can do. I may be able to train you but not issue your Diploma until your birthday (if it is close to the course date, if not perhaps some time with a school as an IKO Assistant instructor will help). Lets talk.
Let me know if you want me to organise the First Aid course to be a part of this course ie on the day prior to the course.
You need to bring yourself and your personal kites as you need to prove to me you can ride well enough to meet the entry prerequisites for the course. Lunch will be provided, as will all training materials, books and the likes.
I hope I have covered everyones questions, if not, please send me another email with your direct question, sorry this one isn't more personal. I will also need your full name and surname, age and phone numbers if you are still interested. if you require accomodation, please let me know and I will see if I can get you some info on places local to stay at budget prices.
At this stage lets say the course cost is per the IKO retail price of $750 AUD, I will see what I can do once we start calling for deposits. This will be where we find out who is really serious and who is just making noises.
I hope to hear from you all again soon with confirmation of interest and acceptability of the dates mentioned above.
I look forward to speaking with you soon.
Best winds,
Darren Marshall
