The last few windless days had me read through a lot of forum posts about unsafe kiting practices around different locations. Believe me, I share the same frustrations and come to the same conclusions on a nearly daily basis.

I think the key to solving this problem is relatively simple: education.

I'm surprised to see that most of the time; no one is approaching the beginners trying to learn kiting by themselves, or the typical “mate teaching his mate” on long lines and overpowered kites. Not to mention the slightly more “experienced kiters” using board leashes, kiting recklessly, not knowing the right of way rules, etc.

I think as experienced kiters we all need to get into a more proactive approach and make it our goal to educate other kiters, one by one, day by day.

Yes, some people are harder to “educate” then others, even when approached in the nicest of ways. But eventually if many people approach the same person, the message will go through.

I think if we all “pitch in” and try our best to educate other kiters in a friendly manner without regards to their country of origin, we will inevitably see fewer accidents, avoid kite beach bans, and the need for strict kiting spots regulations, etc.

Thanks for reading...

newbie here in Sydney and not that its upto anyone else to teach anyone else but as a kiting community i see that majority of people do help each other - but only when asked.

As a newbie it can be kinda daunting asking for someone to assist and help out not out of fear of embarrassment but out of not wanting to take someone elses time.

That being said, the people who i have approached for help have been more than happy to help. I think that it comes down to simple manners. If you see someone struggling and you think you can lend a hand, then you probably can. I know i would appreciate it and i know that when im experienced enough i will be sure enough to help whoever i can or whoever asks for it.

I do not share the same view on my local. I do see some not reading the safety guidelines displayed there, or acting as such, sometimes myself included.
