I've seen indoor windsurfing before and was thinking if that could be done for kiting as well. Obviously the space required would be about three to four times larger than the windsurfing ones

If one was built do you think people would actually use it (not that I'm gonna build one anytime soon)???.

Just a thought!!!

Yeah!

Maybe WAKSA could ask the Perth population to gather their fans at one location to get a 40knts wind!?!

That's in french but basically this guy could do 2 tacks with a V4 10m and 7m lines, half of the body in the water. So not really a success....

I did a little research on this a while ago...

For starters each of those fans costs around $2200.00 per day for hire.

You would need twice as many for kiting than windsurfing...considering the AKL has cancelled due to lack of support - do you reckon we could pass the hat around?

Europe & Japan might be the spot - I have a list of open stadiums which would minimise the turbulance generated from the bouncing wind...

It would not work unless you had shorter lines (10 meter say), even then there gets holes in the wind from the fans, eg in the center of the fan and on the outside edge, this creates a gusty effect, plus one side of the pool blows 20kn and on the other its more like 16kn. You would have to have the ceiling approx 100m high with fans floor to ceiling, be 100m+ in width to allow for downwind landings = not worth it.
A better idea might be making a huge man made lake in a really good consistantly windy spot
PS - i remember the first time they had a comp in the indoor windsurfing place, they put blueloo in the pool to make the water look blue. Everyone complained. lmao

Check this out....

.....might be a bit gusty but could be ok.

Aparently it is going to be available for all non-powered water sports.

I think it is in Kelmscott

Yeah , thats more like it. but if you look closely they have built huge powerlines next to that lake.....
I know my kite would be scared of them...
