IKO: more loop holes than a crochet mat and isn't under the fair trade act of Australia.
AKSA: more like a crochet blanket but definably worth having them as an association
Yachting Australia: Gives kiteboarders the same cover they have been providing yacht clubs with 35000 members in Australia
So would AKSA be better off becoming part of YA?

Club Marine (clubmarine.com.au, part of Allianz Insurance) offers boat insurance, for windsurfers. They might offer some for kiteboarding too.

Or...if you have a passport from another country, you might be able to get PL insurance O/S. Works for me: I am covered for public liability (to 3rd parties) and against damage inflicted to myself by uncovered 3rd parties for the cost of about $150 a year. Why? Cause its standard in the country where I am from...

That's NOT the same as what YA is offering....

Personal Accident Insurance

Yachting Australia arranges a group personal accident insurance covering all silver and youth members and students undertaking a Yachting Australia Training Scheme at a Yachting Australia Training Centre, or other recognised organisation, between the ages of 5 years and 85 years.

TL, the two are different types of insurance. With YA, if I break my leg, I would have insurance to pay MY bills.
With AKSA insurance if I break someone else's leg, I have insurance to pay THEIR bills. The two are related yet entirely different types of insurance.

The issue that AKSA might want to advise us all on is the possibility for extending the existing PL insurance to include personal injury insurance, or the possibility of a separate personal insurance policy offered to members...

My contents insurance has a mobile clause that enables me to be covered anywhere I go for liability insurance.

No exclusions for kitesurfing in the fine print.

Hey TH
We have requested quotes for 2010/11 for increased PL from $10M to $20M. That will definitely be minimum cover for all memebers this season.
WE are also getting quotes for separate personal injury cover and to extend existing PL cover to include kiter to kiter.
We may be able to offer the extended cover as options?

Thanks for your great work with yatching contacts. Looking very promising. We are getting details from ISAF as we speak.
For those who may not have heard AKSA is an affiliate of the IKA International Kite Assoc. (not to be confused with IKO). The IKA is the kiting division of the ISAF - International Sailing Federation of which Yatching Australia is also an affiliate. The formalities of the wider inter-relationships; eg AKSA to Yatching Aust & etc; are still being investigated.

^^^^ good to here guy's,
Being part of ISAF should open up many avenues for kiteboarding becoming a legit sport in the eyes of government, councils and other officialdom.
It does however seem to be a case of if you don't ask then you will not receive.
as IKA has been an affiliate of ISAF for some time ( I understand its still under a year though) and within Australia this post seems to be the first result of the affiliation.
Personally us local kiters becoming part of our local yacht club has been a huge help for everyone. Beginners have a safe environment to learn encouraging more girls to get involved. Council and government departments now have an official local club to discuss access issues. Local events can now be run much easier with members having a direct say in what they want to do. We now have a club house with bar to enjoy. We are even eligible for government grants.
So if your passionate about this sport don't just rely on a very few committee members in the state associations become or even start a local beach user group or club and your efforts will be rewarded.
