Hey Monkey
The only issue with Dolls is the tide, and the fact that Kitepower runs the only kitesurfing school in Sydney, at Dolls over the summer months.
There are a number of issues with Brighton, but when the tide is going out you could be fooled into thinking Brighton is the place to be.
Brighton has changed a lot over the last 12 month, the council has put in pine log fencing around all the remnants of the dunes, so now there are a lot more obstacles to hit if something goes wrong at launch or landing. Some of the other hazards, are the 3 lane major road within 1.5 line lengths of the waters edge (there have been several instances of kites landing on the road!!, one person paralysed!!), the sea baths and their nets and poles, the Sydney International and Domestic Airports within 1.2-2klms from the launch, we have already had runaway kites get as far as the rocks at the base of the runways, if one goes onto a runway expect to lose access to that entire area. In summer the tiny beach gets very crowded mainly with people who don't speak english or understand english well, kitesurfers should just stay away on hot days when the beach is crowded.
It is not a suitable beach to practice learning to kitesurf from.

Several of the beaches south of Brighton, especially Lady Jane beach at Ramsgate are now a much better option, as they have been widened by dredging over winter.

My advice is stay away from Brighton, use the beaches further south, when the tide is running out, or go to Wanda or Boat Harbour.

My grass is very short these days, but thanks for trying to mow it!

I said, we are running the only school, that is a fact. We actually are the only school, and the only one with full council permits, full waterways approval, full insurance, proper IRB rescue boat, radio communications with students and the shop and the best team of committed instructors in my opinion.
There are some other instructors around in the metro area for sure, but they are all operating outside of the authorities guidelines/laws.
Teaching is Sydney is a tough at the best of times, well running a legal school is, at least.
The other thing is that Dolls is literally the only (choppy at times)flat water spot to teach from in the entire Sydney metro area. So we need everyone to co-operate with us down there at Dolls. Please everyone don't come flying in to the beach and do tricks 10M off the beach (not saying you do that).

Ummm ok - so if Dolls is such an "unsafe" place for experienced folks to kite what makes it such a great place for lessons?

Just curious...

Couldnt you guess! Lack of advanced riders doing tricks near the shore make it a great place for learners.

And

It's location is close to Kitepower for any gear requirements and makes the organising of lessons easier.

Steve also has the ability to provide back up gear if anything is required.

Ok OK

This is too funny,
There is no where that Steve has referred to Dolls in this paragraph.

"Brighton has changed a lot over the last 12 month, the council has put in pine log fencing around all the remnants of the dunes, so now there are a lot more obstacles to hit if something goes wrong at launch or landing. Dolls is safer because is has a slightly wider beach and no obstructions like fences. It though has power lines behind it on the other side of the road and can get crowded in Summer also. I generally like Brighton in a NE but is is doable in a SE or S for more experienced riders (read not learners) Set up up where the first carpark is heading south down the Grand Pde.

Learners can make mistakes on land and pay dearly for it due to fences errected recently.
