It seems kite-board racing has become huge overseas and may be the first part of kiting to be an olympic sport.
Has anyone tried it? Does anyone have any race boards here in Australia?
Am keen to demo ride a board if any in SE Queensland.

As a racing sailor, converted to the joys of Kiteing, i would love to see some course racing over here. Thinking of trying to organise some sort of demo day here in SA.

A fun series sounds good, low key and fun on water. Let me know when.

even throw in a spare set of 5inch dagger fins for max grip so you can point max up wind at an optimum travellling speed

Hi Guys and girls,

We have a North Race LTD in our demo stock and it is pretty amazing to ride, VERY FAST UPWIND! I was thinking last season about organising course racing, but honestly, the time required, logistics involved and liability issues are a bit of a headache, not to mention weather considerations, impact on the locals at the beach etc (Did try but was cancelled due to offshores).

However, this season I figured we might buy a second Race board, perhaps the Airush Monaro and have match racing one or two afternoons a week sort of like Holden vs Ford. I wonder how many noticed the references to the two classic Aussie Cars. Holden is obvious with Monaro, but less obvious was Ford (LTD or Lincoln Thunderbird Division)

It will be much easier to organise, less likely to be kaotic and less congestion at the beach. Races would start from the beach and be simply out around the markers and back to the beach. First racer home wins. Simple, low key, fun and inexpensive. We'd keep record of the results and maybe have an overall pointscore winner over the season if people are interested. Or just have on the day winners, whatever, I wanna keep it fun and easy.

I have a Dozen or so guy's that are all keen to race as well,

A little closer to summer when the winds a little more consitant we will lock in a day on the weekend and get a race going.

We held some fun races up at North last year and its was heaps of fun.

It gets pretty competative reall quick

Ill be in touch Rhys and we can hook our race day's up on the same day.

Some of us are hanging to try out race boards. We don't want to race. We just want to do big upwinders in lightish wind followed by the big downwinder as the sea breeze kicks in. Basically just sailing up the coast and having fun.

Saw the new Monaro at the shop, looks neat, just need to get it on the water

Trapezoid courses used to be quite fun in sailing, but a simple blast upwind then back would be easier to organise.

ps i think course raacer boards need a bit of wind to work. ie u wont go gunning up wind in light crap.

with very little ( IF ANY) rocker, a longer running length, stiffer construction and longer fins...as all race boards are/have...... upwind in light crap is almost a specialty....

Someone posted some photos from a massive tangle that occurred at the start of a race. I reckon in addition to the normal race rules, you would have to have a rule that requires the initiator of a mass kitemare to buy all his co-tangled competitors a slab each...
