Haven't seen so may red arrows on the forecast for a while. Is this the end of the season. Do I hang up my kite and just go back to Croquet for the next 6 months?

Did it ever start?

Worst season I can remember, unless you had headlights to catch the southerlies that came through at 10pm Sunday nights.

Dont just look at the seabreeze arrows but look at the BOM forecast for sydney. www.bom.gov.au/nsw/forecasts/coastalwaters.shtml

And look for IDN1002306
Sydney Closed Waters,Pittwater, Port Jackson and Botany Bay:

Remember the arrows are an average of all the wind conditions in the Sydney Metro area so they dont always indicate a certain wind condition in all areas of Sydney.

Sometimes it can be red arrows at most areas but you may find one area that has better wind than forecasted via seabreeze arrows.

I have kited in Winter in Sydney and found it a bit gusty. As a beginner check your safety systems and always kite with a buddy to help you launch and land your kite.

Good luck!

yep = the season is officially over, but like the other folks I don't remember if/when it started.

I blame bow kites for the lack of wind. Let's hope there is not a repeat next season.

Yes it time to start riding in the Westerlies but don't dispair. I got more weekends in last winter at Kurnell and up at The Entrance then I have this summer as this year has been very inconsistant.
Just remember that the wind can chage quickly and test your quick release once in awhile to make sure it is A-ok as you may find you are over-powered and need to come into shore but too powered to self land or even to risky to get that close to shore. So angle in close if no one there to catch and then pull release and walk into shore and collect kite. Can make a mess of your lines but better safe then sorry.

The best way to see the average wind conditions at different times of the year is a graph called a wind rose.
Check them out here-
www.bom.gov.au/climate/averages/wind/selection_map.shtml

Sydney in April should expect 20% NE but mostly S - SE.

Its true Mt Float, all the wind did get sucked down here tonight, I got on the water about 5.30pm, kited in approx 10-15knots till about 6.30/7.00, the wind actually built over this time which was good as the tide really started to flow in by then.
Got to test the new 06 FLX 1.52x44, it is so much better than last years, you have to get one!
Used the 16 SB again, its almost the only kite I need these days. tried to get over to Kurnell, it was quite a bit stronger over there by a few knots, but it seemed to be more North the further I went, ended up just doing speed runs and jumps in front of Towra, had a great stack on the way back, going real fast hoiked the kite back could not get it back, ended up landing backwards, then kite looped the kite and got launched and dragged backwards some more, then did it again then I remembered to push the bar away, kite stopped pulling doh!
Started body dragging back to my board, then realised i could stand up, the water was knee deep, 2nd doh!
Great session to cap off the last of the daylight savings after work adventures.

Cya and

Goodwinds
