I am looking at cheap flights on jet star to bali for a surf trip and notice that they don't take luggage over 2m. My travel bag is 7ft. Has anyone every had there luggage reffused or charged enourmous amounts of $$$ on this tight arse airline.

Jet star is CRAP for kite gear or bigger items.

Kite gear is usually put in 'oversized' check in/baggage collection counters.

you should all be men and face the checkin dudes with confidence.
after all the fare is cheaper than a bus fare.
negotiate graciously and pay your stupid excess for your $149.00 return fare even though it is your right to turn up with 14 bags.
by the way i think fair is your combined bodyweight/baggage total.
diet on, plumpers!

No negotiations with Jet Star if luggage is 2m or longer
Reason is all Jet Star luggage is packed into containers then loaded into the belly of the plane.
The maximum length of the containers is 2m.... so all the negotiating in the world aint gonna help you.

In the end you pay for what you get

That's a good point to bring up. When you fly your'e not paying for the seat. EVERYTHING goes by weight. If it's over 2m yeah..sorry waste of time negotiating.

Airlines like Jetstar can cash in on excess luggage.

If you are in Australia I recommend VirginBlue or Qantas.

if you are going to bali go with garuda, yes they are dodgy but they will let u get away with all the gear in the world and still wont charge you.
They wont charge you cos most of their customers are surfers etc..
They all have 8ft board bags that way heaps.
Last time i flew them my kite bag was over 32kg, and it was fine.

I think there rule is you are allowed 28kg but then if its a board bag they give you an extra 10kg.
I wouldnt hold me to that thou.
Go virgin for all domestic!! They rock!!!

Hope you have a good trip.

Comrade Angie

You need to watch out for the weight over 32 kilos.
The bag snatchers out the back have a policy that if it is over 32 kg they will not lift it (Work Cover Regulations)
I do a lot of interstate and International flying
As long as your kit is 32 kg or less you will be sweet.

Virgin Blue is the only way to go for domestic travel in Australia.
Again you need to abide by the 32 kg rule but as you can check your gear in at the oversize luggage counter and its sporting equipment they are more than happy to take the lot... cant say the same for the flying bastards (qantas)
The times i have flown with the flying bastard they have either
a) charged for excess
b) smashed boards

Support the good guys go virgin blue... and don't forget to be nice and say thankyou to the check in staff... what goes around comes around !

Fly Virgin Blue for domestic, and Pacific Blue for some nice island destinations in the winter.

We didn't have a choice on price until Virgin so support em.

That way I can still afford to buy new kites each year off the Green one.
