sorry wrong button
- cont

Pros - insurance
more negotiating power through high number of members
united approach on tackling issues (bans)
economic benefits for WAKSA in terms of support for our state riders to attend national activities
just to name a few

Cons - none in my view

Its a shame some feel that waksa have failed some in some way but in reality those who have not joined have failed everyone.
Currently WAKSA is run by - yes some with direct economic interests -but the committee majority are now individuals (local working groups) with a passion for the sport. These people give up their time in a bid to protect this sport for all.

look at the stats 10% of kiters in WA are members of WAKSA

Dont sit behind your PC and complain about what WAKSA dont do - get off your A#$%& and join/support or heaven forbid maybe even consider giving some of your own time to preserve this sport for all.

its a shame it is left to only a few motivated individuals to address issues that will/do affect us all

Couldn't agree more, but what we need is feedback from WAKSA.

If they are struggling to get things done due to other committments then they need to come on here and ask for help.

There are some sub-committees running at the moment and they are doing a great job, but the Pelican Point Users Group was started (from what I have read www.seabreeze.com.au/forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=1613) out of frustration because nothing was happening from WAKSA.

I don't know the user names (for this forum) of WAKSA committee members (other than Ian Young) so they may well be posting on here. Maybe they should make it clear that they are a WAKSA committee member?

Even if it's simple things like typing up some minutes, producing a newsletter (we could send an electronic one via email to save costs), ringing around getting quotes for signs, gettting the website up and running, or just helping promote WAKSA more (this could be a couple of people just going round the kite spots at the weekend and giving people who aren't members some information and application forms); us, the members may be able to help. But if we don't know we can't do anything.

Come on WAKSA, tell us where you need some assistance and let's get this show on the road!

I agree, Ian Youngs news letter really is the only regular contact to kite boarding issues. WAKSA, apart from our gossip on sea breeze. I stir the pot on sea breeze to get some energy happening. Maybe WAKSA needs to get a media person who can post news onto the WAKSA/general site at sea breeze. Hi Jenny Ackland may be able to do that. Maybe there is little to POST. Maybe Ian should POST his newsletter into the sea breeze forum section, to he does not have to spend more time on kiting. Also any body interested or has a concern with kiting isues can POST it on the forums and as you can see with the Ban Kiting at Cott post , that has been read over 400 times in a week, alot of kiters read Seabreeze.

I know it keeps being said that there is a financial interest in certain individuals being on the WAKSA committee, but anyone who has ever been on a committee knows that it's a thankless task.

The time that the committee members put into WAKSA could be spent on their own businesses / jobs, and therefore, how is there financial benefit in it?? Wouldn't they be better off spending the time making a quid??

I still fail to work out this mentality...

All good points on WAKSA improving it's communication with it's members - certainly an issue that I have raised in previous committee meetings but as I have said in my Cott posting, these are group decisions and it's not easy getting a solution that everyone is comfortable with and at the end of the day somebody has to make the time and effort to implement.

WAKSA has and will continue to consult and ask for assistance via the Seabreeze WAKSA forum. I personally have been very diasppointed with the responses to date eg one of the more recent ones was asking for feedback on proposed signage text - we had three responses :-(

Standby for a HEAP of requests for volunteers to help with the Australian Nationals in Jan 2005 ... amongst many other tasks :-)

BTW I only send my newsletters to those that ask for it and I have suggested that WAKSA start it's own newsletter - I want to keep my business interests clearly separated from WAKSA

To kick things off, I'm happy to offer my services in preparing a newsletter and either emailing it out or posting it on the Seabreeze forum.

And if WAKSA need a hand with a website then I am more than happy to help out there. I develop e-business systems/websites for a living; I have dedicated servers for hosting so it won't cost WAKSA a cent!

I know WAKSA does supposedly have a slot on the AKSA site, but I've never managed to get any pages to come up, or have I got the wrong address www.aksa.com.au/wa ?

oiweb

i would love to talk to you about the website development if you'd be willing to offer your services...

can you please send me an email [email protected] and we'll get things rolling.

i have already started sorting out hosting, thankfully one of the regular guys from peli point (thanks graeme) has offered his assistance there, so it's on it's way.

i'd be grateful for any help mate.

Oiweb, you have the correct URL - it's just one of many frustrations WAKSA has had with AKSA over the last 18 months. Steve Carlson put in a huge effort in developing the first site guides that were up on the old AKSA website almost two years ago - they lost it all when they changed web hosts and we're still waiting for the ability to edit the WA area - recently gave up and are now starting our own thanks to Deano, Jan and Graeme.

Ian Young
