Based on my own personal experience, there's a possibility that a 3,5 metre boat in 20 kts could leave you wishing, you were in something just a tad bigger. J

yes it is classed as protected waters , where would you be launching from(boat),there are some open sections between Jacobs well and jumping pin in a Southerly ,Lets just say your going to get a wet ass before you even get there.

I used to kite there often a couple of years ago. On our way home, the water was always fairly choppy after the wind had blown for the afternoon, but that was only in the open sections of the passages and the bar area. You'll be right with your inflatable. Just take it easy in the more open sections.

It's a fairly open area and the current is strong in areas. If you drop your kite in the middle of the bar, or lose your board on an out going tide you could get into trouble. There's other zones to kite instead of the middle of the bar though. It's best to kite there if it's a North-East-Southerly wind in an out going tide like most bars. You can kite small sections there in any tide but it's much better when the current is running out. In coming tide with a westerly can be good.

Even if you went there and didn't kite on the weekend, it's an awesome beach to chill out at.

dude. stick to the lee shores, couple of minutes of choppy channels. otherwise all smooth.
locals with boats have been going there for the last decade for kiting.

I went there today, would have been over 20 knots all day i reckon. I was fully powered on my 10m. Kited between 12 and 3:30. All pretty smooth and dry except for the last 200m. Interesting trying to navigate around all the sand bars, i only ran aground once.

I was pretty scared of aquatic wildlife though, being the only kitesurfer around with all these fishermen burleying up the water...

I was planning on leaving from jacobs well. Its an inflatable with a 30hp, it has the power to cane along but yes it bumps around a lot if its choppy.

I used to take a rubber duck with a 25hp on the back from Scarborough to Boulders under the Moreton Lighthouse. Full of surfboards and camping gear and food for a week. Now that was hairy, but we just used to wetsuit up, have the boards on top and worst case was a long paddle home......best case it was glass and we scurfed the whole top of the island from Bulwer around.

We did have two boats though so a bit of redundancy...

Now those were the days.....until a guy got taken by a white pointer there. Haven't been back since then.
