dan jones and i have been hard at work making a kicker coz theres no wind lately. it is finished and we thought we would break it in this saturday at woodies coz they are calling a 15-18knt onshore so it should be sick. it is portable . it is about waist high 1200mm wide. 2m long. and it isnt straight it has a gradual curve with a nice kick at the end. constructed out of patio tube. ply and pine. also a 3mm layer of poly sheet covering the entire surface. so it shouldnt damage our ramp or your board. similar stuff to the petex bottoms on some kite boards. and you should be able to hit it with ya fins in. the only rule is that if you are on the water u have to hit it. see ya there on saturday. then after have a few beers at Karls prem. WOODIES SATURDAY ARVO AFTER 1.00pm (u dont really have to hit it but why not give it a shot)

might bring ours down to if we can get hold of a trailer
ours is about 2m long 1.5m wide and will sit just over a meter out of the water

we just need to put the top on thinking rows of pipe or just a sheet of ply

Ill see if i can nose plow into it or some other spectacle....

should be interesting to see who can measure their distances and heights right to hit it,

could be a great laugh,

bit like the gymnastics vid where the guy jumps off the spring board head first into the horse thing, or whatever they call it. that always cracks me up when i see it..

see ya there IF there is wind

Saturday is a long time out for forecasts at the moment....

Great turn out yesterday, even in crap conditions. Love that determination. Would like to see a bit more concern for fellow kiters though....especially from those who know better. Sh-t happens and we should improve our attitude with regard to looking out for each other. A bit of a selfish excercise for some I thought.

2 riders went down in the bay while I was there and no one went out to see if they were ok, much less give them a hand. One of the kiters had no business being at that spot in the first place; regardless not one of the hot shot young riders cared to check on these people in trouble.....that's what I call being selfish.

if u kite woodies often enough u would know that if u drop your kite near the jetty it is gusty and very hard to relaunch. so it is not being selfish just using common sense. it was 1 kite down. 1 kite tried to help and lufted also . what do u want every kite on the water to be stuck down there and a dozen kiters swimming in. by the way i didnt see u going and lending a hand either. not having a go but it seems people point the finger alot at others when they themselves dont do that themselvesd. so not selfish just sensible.

Your point is taken Ryland, but it was in fact me who went out to help the guy who broke a line.

Point taken Ryland but would also like to point out ...
gruezi was the one who spent his entire time at Woodies that day helping 1st the person who shouldn't have been there and then the very competent (& very grateful) guy who just happened to snap a line.

The wind was so light that day what is the point going downwind which also means offshore if you cant get back yourself.
Had it been 20kn Im sure Ryland would have been out there to assist as he as done in the past.

water users need to learn the international signs/signals for "DISTRESS"...

I'm not about to say that Ryland or any of his mate's down there we're lazy or irresponcible for not comming to the aid of a fellow kiter. BUT, if that kiter was in distress and KNEW the signals and IF the others KNEW them also if would make things EASYER...

I know them but my dad drilled them into me from a very young age. However I once was in distress in the river and used the siganls to attract a ferry and the guy/skipper looked at me and just kept on going. Some other guy and his wife picked me up and said "did you see that guy, he looked at ya and kept going".

The northern bay on woodies is not for beginners thats for sure...

Responcibility lyes with the individual not others...

I was the one who line snapped.. when this happened the wind was light and all the kiters were headin down wind.. i was not any further down wind at this pt than any other kiter.. while trying a trick my kite fell outta the sky.. i didnt realise that my centre line had snapped after spending several atempts at relaunchin i then realised what had happened.. ryland and the other guys asked if i needed help i told them i was ok and would swim as i new that i was to far north and that there kite would fall.. i never signaled for help.. i didnt need help.. For those people who thought ryland and others were stuborn for not helping there not!! just smart as they know there was not enough wind round that corner.. If my line had not have snapped the incident would not have happened.. Like i said on the beach gruezi thanks for helping but you didnt have to...
just wanted to clear that up
cheers

Ok, let us put and end to this topic. Perhaps I over reacted on this one. Once again this forum has been a great outlet for all concerned and cleared the air.

We all do help each other out and I have had nothing but positive impressions from the people I have met in this sport.

Thanks

Nick

there is no bad grudges. and all is good it was just every one knows what happens when u get stuck down there and thats why no one goes down there. no one was in danger so there seemed no need to swim also. i actually went down to woodies that day with dan as he was the one who helped me build the kicker. so if i could have dont u think i would have been the first to help a mate out and also all his other mates that where there .glad its all cleared up. lets hope the wind is better than that day this weekend.
