Any ideas on what the winds/weather is like in Hawaii that time of the year. Recommendations as to where to stay/best locations for kiting.

Well you _DO NOT_ want to really kite the big island unless you like lacerations from what I am told. Winds are also some of the most unpredictable in the world.

O'ahu requires bigger kite than Maui due to the way the winds are, Lanai and Molokai are very remote and as for Kauai I have no idea sorry..

You will want on Maui at least a 9 and 13 meter kite from what I am told I haven't kited winter yet here but I can get you definitive answer if you wish when I go to Kanaha tomorrow.

Aloha from Maui :)

And if you come to Maui be sure to look me up. I am still learning but I can ask people who have been kiting there for 10 years :)

Hi Speed Brother,

Hawaii is in the end of their season. Kiting usually finishes in September. When I used to live over there I always grabbed a plane and got out usually within the first week of September as winds had become less frequent.

If you are lucky you may crack the first of the decent winter swells though. Wind would be lucky at this time of year as they are in the throws of seasonal change from trades to Kona.

Good luck and give my regards to Hawaii

hmm? AFAIK there is pretty much consistent winds through the winter from what I have been told. They are just not as strong as the current trades?

I could be wrong but I believe the people who kite daily here. I was speaking with a instructor today who was mentioning how with me getting a surfboard likely my 9m will do just fine.

Will see but this year has been odd anyway.. Ultradrought bad :/

I'm heading there in feb and have been told by a local to expect nuking winds and to bring nothing as it would be akin to taking bananas to coffs harbour, its all there waiting for me sup, surf and kite.

can't wait
