Hi All,

You've all seen the video footage of kiteboarders/surfers shot from the kite looking down at the pilot.

I have been intrigued by what sort of equipment set up is used.
Anyone seen this filming in action? Can anyone point to any weblinks?

They also seem to have been able to post process the footage so the horizon or pilot remains somewhat level. Again, can anyone point me to what software is used?

Lastly, I am interested in producing this sort of footage around Perth with the help from others. Anyone out there also interested in meeting to discuss topic further?

Cheers

Chris van Etten

There's a program called Adobe After Effects that tracks the horizon and stabilises the picture. It costs a few grand to buy but you might be able to find an editor with a copy or download it from somewhere.

They are likely to be using kit like this:

www.cameras4sports.co.uk/product.asp?id=134

Small lipstick (helmet) cams that can be strung between the lines of the kite and pointed down towards the rider.

You can get them in all different flavours, including a wireless, so they transmit the signal to a video recorder on the beach or there's some that record directly to SD cards in the camera unit itself.

The fixed shot of the rider staying stationary whilst the horizon moves can be done in realtime (no software needed) by fixing a harness/brace to the rider and attaching the camera to that.
