Sounds like a great idea, I haven't seen a single "chick" kitesurfing at Maroochydore Rivermouth or Cottontree.

Is there a larger female kitesurfing community in other areas around the country and if not is there a reason for it. I see heaps more surf chicks out there each time I go out??? Is the sport too extreme and dangerous; are there lots of women who try it out and then give it up or is there just not that much interest? Maybe some of the instructors here could shed some light on ratio of male to female clients and the ration of malefemale who give up?

i once heard of a mystical place called chicktopia where its always 20 knots, perfect flat blue water and all the girls kite topless and are really good at tricks and riding waves, they all said they were waiting for some guy called davespruce!

Saffer, thats a silly question. Crash your kite and hope one of the topless women come to your aide . (gf looking over my shoulder with an angry expression).

Paggy- An awesome idea, I think it will go a long way to encouraging more women in teh sport.

What timing, I have been mulling over forming a Kitechicks group in Perth in the last few weeks! I already have a network of girls I kite and catch up with, and think I will try and do something a bit more organised after Kitestock.
A mate had a nice analogy in his head of Charlies Angels when 3 of us did a downwinder together on the weekend: we had great fun, and I think it spun out a lot of the 'dudes' on the beach to see the girls doing it for themselves!

We have noticed more and more girls out here, but not often en-masse.

Terese (aka Terri) is the one organising the get together up at the Sunshine Coast and you'll be sure to have a good time! Teri helps me write the female kitesurfing magazine "Soulfly" which has been running for a year and a half now.

The aim of it was to meet more female kiters which has been a huge success as I only knew of 10 in sydney at the time and now we have about and 200 women on our list starting at the mid teen age. There are networks of female kiters all over the world we know of that you can tap into if you're visiting those countries. For example in the UK there is a group called the Turbulence Angels (much like Knickers Charlies Angels), we did a write up on them in the last edition! In the USA there is Kitegirl and WKA (Womens Kiteboarding Association), all doing fantastic work in the female world and definitely worth checking out. Trust me when I say you are far from alone in the female kiting world, girls are out there more than ever and I'm rarely the only female kiting on the beach anymore!

I wish paggy, she thinks its funny everytime i say "im going to fly a kite". Besides if she starts kiting, there will be no lovely lady on the beach ready to launch and land my kite.

Now that Caela has reminded me, there were several ladies kiting days held in South Africa while I was living there as well, and the principal editor of SA's glossy kite magazine is a girl.
