Hi All,

Newish to Perth but seeing if there is anybody else out there that gets a kick out of enduro style, speed and longer distance kiting.

Did a ride from woodies to Rockingham & back to woodies today, was PURE AWESOME!!! More like motoX in the swell, had an absolute blast!!

There are great events such as the L2L, Lancelin Race, Redkite Downwinder and also the course racing series.
Perth has so many brilliant spots to hold longer styles enduro courses, and they need not be major marketing type events.

Those that wish to comment on safety, I'm well aware of the risks, i accept these risks and take as much preventative precautions as possible, (detailed kit inspection, pfd, hand flare, camel pack, phone & snacks.) I also practice self rescues from time to time - Done a few recently at Melville due to inverted kites after high-speed wipe-outs.

If you do similar trips please PM me, would love to tag along.
For those are interested there is also a great app for iphone to track you rides.
I also carry a BGT-31 GPS and the data matches very closely.

Hey Andy
Thanks for the heads up on this stuff - interesting

I'm not in WA but I'm keen to have a look at this stuff a bit closer for some of our 'fun' days.

I've had a look at Kite Tracker (briefly!) but it asks me to turn on my iphone GPS (??) - I'm pretty sure its on and I cant see in the app how you set your start and finish point ( I'm a very new iphone owner - and an old fart so please go easy!!).

Thanks for posting ! ( oh and I'm using an iphone 4s and your power meter of 10% is ouch!! - so the need to reduce battery consumption as per the Kite T info is kind of important!!)

Hi Lambie,

Did another great run today, kitetracker.com/gps/tracking?r=andyhansen_4
Keep me posted on your fun days, may even pop over to join along :)

Im using and old Iphone4 still, all the iphones have a built in GPS. When you in the app, click the enable GPS to capture your track. If you have any issues, PM me or email their support, they get back to pretty quick. Yeah my power was abit low, had waterproof earphone and was listening to music and tracking so battery didnt last too long.

Hi Picker,
I'm riding a 2009/20120 Manaro at the moment as my prefer board for the longer offshore runs. Its just easier in the swell and chop. Changed the straps though to more comfortable ones.
I also ride a 5"6 strapped Airush converse surfboard and my TT from time to time if i lend the Manaro to mates who join me.

Hi ya Andy - thanks for tip but once loaded I worked out the app = pretty simplyreally ( I just need a bit of time to warm up - ha ha )

I have been ( sort of ) into the windsurfing speed sailing thing - you mentioned that this app is close on the speed side - how close? actuactly it may all be academic based on the recent speedsailing record of 69 knots !!! Wow

Thanks for your response!! Gavan

BTW - a 2009/20120 Manaro , what is that ( google hasnt got is head around that beast!!) TT or directional??

There happens to one for sale on SB

www.seabreeze.com.au/Classifieds/Kitesurfing-Boards/~al-8_/2010-Airush-Monaro-2010-170-cm.aspx?search=5nd1NASKJ9iyfeYe65%2fCqA%3d%3d

Only issue with the old Manaro is its only 2 straps so leading foot does take a bit of strain on longer rides. Moved the front strap all the way back to make it a litte more comfortable.
The newer boards in this size/style North Freerace, Cabrinha Transport, Sector 54 all have a 3 strap layout.

But most of the strapped surfboards will do fine in the chop/swell. Any board that that you can hold down as you race over the swell. narrower the better, and also a bit of length i find helps maintain speed in swell

Ive got a Sector 60 that ive tried in the swell and dont feel as in control, it is a super fast board being riding flat rather than edged.... but the changing angles naviagting though rough chop & swell, ramping up and over steep swell and wind kicking up the front... i have a tough time holding it down, better suited to flat water. Im sure more skill on the wider race boards and they could handle offshore conditions, i just dont have that skills (yet )
