Hi All,

It's been a while since I've been on the forum, had a fairly large break / created a new family member etc.. You know the rest.

Prior to the break however I had lost the passion which I once had for kitesurfing; I was going out and could never quite get past a certain level aka handlepassing / really pushing the kite to it's extremities. I thought I'd hit my peak and could not continue to progress, and without this progression which really drove me to go out and push harder, I lost interest.

Two years on I'm ready to get stuck in again, in the few sessions that i've had in the interim wave riding has got huge, I go out at Brighton beach and I couldn't believe how many kiters were doing the coastal downwinders, caused a bit of an issue if you just want to do your out and in runs then find a wave to use as a kicker, sometimes you have to cut your return trips short to avoid kiters doing downwinders and as such missing out on the kickers..

I got into kitesurfing loving the massive airs you could get out of the old Cabrinha crossbows (08s), I then progressed onto liquid force hybrid kites and then onto slingshots; finally i now have a 10 metre airush

I want to have a big season this year; but I'm unsure as to which direction I want to push myself; wave riding, freestyle or freeride. I feel i'm too young to completely give up freestyle but due to my beach proximity it's relatively unpractical to get to flat water every session, I love big boosts more than anything but I also love progession!!!

Has anyone gone through a similar mid kite crisis?? I'm hoping to get a new kite or two this year; has anyone got a suggestion of a perfect kite which would cater for this type of non-committal babble???

I don't understand kiting on surfboards. I love chasing waves when it's offshore and there is a meaty swell, I love it more than kiting. But when it is 20knots+ and onshore, it is boosting time.

Send it and bend the bar.

Do whatever you like best! Don't worry about what everyone else is doing, you just gotta make sure you get your jollies from doing what you enjoy

Go to beach
Set up oversized kite e:g 14m 20 knots
Punch out, hit every lip you see, fly above all the others
Pack up
Go home
Have shower
And think to yourself "how good was that"
Make love to spouse

Try the surf board, adds a new dimension to the sport. and you can pretend, like myself that you no longer can do all the tricks due to material constraints.

Waterskiiis.
Get a huge fat set of waterskis and pioneer some radical mannooovres.
Then get really mintox and see if you can get barrelled on the things. Backwards. Like reverse riding waterski barrelled.

Do all of the above in a chicken suit.

Now that just cant be boring.

yes just so it all!!!! so what board would you need to punch big airs slash waves and throw the occasional trick?

the answer is a mutant!. join the club of weirdos that ride mutants and blaze your own unconventional style.

Totally with you wishy on that. When I'm in grandpa mode and the body is sore I might go for a strapless cruise. Other than that, again don't get it. Then again watched Jason from westozkiteboarding the other day just ripping apart our local break. Got myself a coffee from Maccas sat and admired and thought 'wish I could do that', but I say that a lot really.
