Last weekend I got all my kites out; hosed them down, dug all the sand out, etc. Fresh water and a rub with a towel didn't seem to get them as clean as I would have liked.
What product would you cyberkiters suggest to remove those unsightly stains?

Some people say a bit of dishwashing detergent in water, other people say this has an adverse effect on the fabric. Laundry detergent would probably attract the same debate. What I have used before, would probably nice and gentle and worked quite well is normal bath soap. Wet a bar of it and using that or a soft brush should get out most of the stains. Now if you're spilling red wine or something like that on it would be a different story, but one would wonder why red wine and kite are coming into contact...

There was a 'beer spilt on kite incident' last year I recall though, not such a strange concept when you think about it.

i dont think you should go anywhere near sailcloth with anything but water, just ignore the unsightly stains. (that theory works for my pants too).

A kite with some stains from the sand just has 'character' imo... Unless you are selling or pedantic about it, don't stress. If its mildew or something yuck, just try mild soap and lightly go at it, otherwise, it won't hurt it; just make it smell a bit, and look hideous if it's really bad. In the first place, don't put a wet kite away lol Goodluck with cleaning [}:)]

if your kite gets wet and bothered and covered in beachy grassy muddy leafy crap, then it is your duty to clean the stuff off it and not leave it stewing in the boot of your car for a few days.
washing the stuff off it in the ocean/waterway and re inflating it and then flying it in neutral for 5 mins whilst shaking the bar a bit will dry it off,or hang it over the clothesline.
anyway, keep em dry and salty, thats what i say!
p.s. once the colours have run on your new kite from being packed away wet for the first time. enjoy your new stains forever.

A kite is like a car, the more you clean it, the faster it deteriorates....got to keep it dry and sand off, that's not cleaning, just common sense.

You realise you probably do more damge to it smashing it into the water and leaving on the beach than a whole years worth lying wet and sandy in its bag... a couple of marks get over it. Kites are meant to be punished.

I always seem to drop my kite on my last run of the day which helps to ensure its packed up caked in sand and dripping wet. not much I can do about it. always rinse the bar and lines though in salt water
