Thanks for your comment Bigwavedave but I beg to differ. The 2010 Cabrinha - IDS is an absolute depower safety system and is designed to work everytime without fail, so no doubt about it working as it should.
You'll notice in the video that I ran back towards oldmate as he walked forwards thus minimising any tension that may have come on the lines (it work perfectly) besides with only a few seconds to decide on what to do I felt that it would be best to quick release which enabled me to help my friend if he were in trouble, I was relieved to see him well in control of his kite so the only thing left to do was to thread my lines through his and apologize profusely for my stuffup.
It all worked well, as it should, and we were both out enjoying the wind and waves within minutes, I would recommend this method and I also think it's helpful to debate which way is best and so on and so forth because it can only do good for the sport, fellow kiters can see this topic and others like it and hopefully be more prepared for the unexpected.
A correct split second decisions can make the differance between having a great kite session with your mates or going home in an
ambulance.
Happy kiting and stay safe.
Cheers Marcus

^^^good on you for posting it. Besides the slip, you did everything right to correct. you pulled you QR and kept your distance as much as you could to thet the kite fly/die on one line, only then did you untangle the bar from the line.
Ive seen guys set up for a SWester but it is NW. A lot more dangerous.
beep.......wrong!!
When two kites tangle the worst thing you can do is pull the QR on one kite only!!
This puts the power of 2 kites onto one pilot. Two looping out-of-control kites?? There is no guarantee that the kite will flag.
Both kites must be kept under control or both QR's must be popped simultaneously (communication).
In this case, if he had kept his head, these two could have flown out of the mess. Lucky it didn't go pear shaped.
