Many thanx to Michael for towing me into the beach after I lost my kite this afternoon at Pinnas. You are a champ. Would have been a long swim otherwise.
Also thankx to Cristiana for alerting the jet ski about my kite and to the guy on the white Liquid force kite I think it was for attempting to rescue the kite at the beginning. No easy task in the swelly seas.
Ta to the guy on the Jet ski for bringing my kite into the beach.
You're a ledgend in my books.
This problem occured because of a equipment failure. The spreader bar I was using was one of those Slingshot surefire release ones where the saftey line connects to the part that swivels around the chicken loop to stop lines crossing. It is held together by a reasonably hefty SS bolt. This bolt broke as I loaded the lines of the kite and away she went and I could only watch in abject horror as my kite made a break for freedom!
Won't be using a spreader bar like this again. Eventually rust makes its way into the mechanism regardless of the grade of stainless steel used when salt is involved.
Nice to know so many people are ready to lend a hand when someone is in trouble in this sport.
Equipment failure can happen at any time and gets you when you least expect it.
two weeks ago my chicken loop broke at Lancelin and Rob Gannon saved me then.
Another legend.
Well, safe kiting to all and enjoy the new year.

Make sure you drop Slingshot a line about the gear failure. They need this sort of feedback to improve on the designs for next time!
