Hi Folks ! What size kite would you recommend for a 90kg bloke wanting to kite in a 15 to 20 knot trade wind ?

Hi mate,
It really depends on a few factors.
1. Are the trade winds warm or cold? Warm air is less dense than cold air, so you will need a bigger kite than if the winds were cold..
2. What size board do you have? Generally, the larger the board, the smaller the kite (within reason) so if you are riding a 137 you will need a slightly bigger kite than if you're riding a 145.
3. What style of kite you're looking at.. A delta shape kite will give you more steady power, but a C shape kite will generally be faster, but will fly like a smaller kite.. For example, I ride my 11m OZone C4 when everyone else is out on 9m!
So, the quick answer is... 15-20 knots and 90 kilo.. 13m or a 15m would be the most versatile... But you would need to think about the other factors to narrow down the field too!!
Thanks,
Jess

Theres so many factors that can determine this. What is good for one person, even of a similar weight etc may not be as suitable for another person. Best to demo a few different kites and sizes as much as possible

Depends on what style of riding aswell.
If there is some swell around 9M and north nugget from 15 knots for me.

So there you have it. Advice spanning from 9m to 17m.
I'd say go 17m if your into freeride and want to boost or small as possible to go upwind if your into waves..... wake? i don't do it so have no idea.

17 m in 15 knots you will be doing massive hangtime boosts .Go to all the popular spots around perth on a 15 knot day and have good sesh without a 100 riders being there. Its great fun !.
Have fun on your lawnmower because another option for light to moderate winds are down winders. At 15 knots I can light up my 10m reo and jump on my north nugget and have a good wave sesh!
Anyhow maybe a 12 m delta kite could be a good option for powered riding at the top end and go for light wind specific board at the bottom end of 15 knots.

The difference between 15 knots and 20 knots is a lot..
It's the difference between whether I kite or not.
Just buy a kite that's not overpowered at 20 knots, if I were you I would look at kites with a decent wind range, cabs maybe
