Dear kiters,
My partner, our 3 yo 'tornado' and I are looking at a Pacific island for a 10 day holiday this year, most likely around Jul/Aug and we were thinking of Fiji or Vanuatu. I have researched Fiji and according to kitemaniac it's got a good chance of consistent SW to SE trade winds around that time. However, I am not sure or cannot seem to locate a kite shop in Fiji that I can speak to and ask general questions, etc. We are beginner to intermediate kiters with around 4 mths experience around Melbourne only. Anyone kited in Fiji and recommend a resort they have stayed in? I was thinking of Hideaway Resort as it has a surf spot out the front and also child caring facilities (kids club).
Any thoughts / recommendations welcomed.

I wouldnt recommend Fiji for beginners going without boat support to get away from coral reefs.
Can you stay upwind, if you cant and you kite 100m out from a resort and get into difficulty it will not end nicely if getting dragged downwind over coral
At most of the resorts on the coral coast you can prety much forget kiting a couple of hours either side of low tide.
There are not really any nice sandy bottom flat water spots located at any of the resorts that will have child minding facilities.
Fiji is surrounded by coral reef, there are not that many nice sandy beaches
If you are getting dragged anywhere you will come home with coral cuts everywhere.

I here Cocos and Cook islands have nice sandy lagoons
Have you considered north qld, perhaps port Douglas would be good

Dont forget to do a search on here for fiji, there has been heaps written before

No kite shop in Fiji, so take everything you need, cant even buy a harness there

Sigatoka has sandy beaches and surf - about an 40 minutes east of the Shangri-la on the Coral coast which was really nice with the family

just remembered Mr Kerry Blackburn, Manager from Hideaway Resort used to drive for 3 1/2 hours every Sunday last season to some and kite with us, stay overnight on Sat, then drive back to work on Sunday night.

He said the driving for 3 1/2 hours made up for the magical kiting we had up here! He only kited twice in front of Hideaway and preferred driving for 7 hours to kite with us! Serious commitment i reckon to ensure Quality Wind and Safety when kiting!
