Hi Everyone,

My name is Alysoun Simmons I am the owner of Kamikaze Kites on the Gold Coast and I am fed up with the politics of the Kite Surfing industry and the IKO and I feel it's time for a change. Please let me know how you feel.

Unfortunately I agree with you 110% Alysoun but have no answers.
I think we are still in a niche sport, with too many people with vested interests involved, delicate locations, a huge range of personalities with there own ideas on how the 'industry' should be run, and enough peer and brand group pressure to sink a ship!
From my experience kiting around oz, you seem to be in the epicentre of it all down there too!

My advice is to get out there and kite our great spots while you still can and invest in another industry or go online only with your product/s.

Guys,

I know sometime is frustrating however, do not forget, kite surfing is still a very young sport and we are looking for our own ways.
Having this said, large bodies like AKSA and there associate local bodies and IKO are doing a great job in the recognition of the sport, in representing us, the kite surfing community, organising events and PL insurance for the events and individuals ant trying to regulate the sport.
We have to admit, as individuals, there are some between us which by there actions are tarnishing the image we would like to be projected to the public. And the results are starting to show up in Local Councils, choosing the easiest way, by banning the sport on front beaches.
In the actual environment, we need to be united and help our community, not to divide it.
However, it is good to discuss the issues you have, you may be right (I still don’t know what are you complaining about, can you please be more specific), than someone from IKO or AKSA may be able to address them.
As long as, the kite surfing activity is kept within the acceptable limits required by the Maritime Regulation/Laws and Local Councils bylaws, I do not believe anybody will reject good ideas and suggestion.
Please keep the discussions open, I always say “positive controversy is the first step to progress”, so let’s keep the controversy within the polite/friendly limits and try to progress the sport

Kite freely while you can. If you look at other areas including oversease where Kiting has been more prevalent...there has been restrictions and accidents. I think it's only a matter of time until that catches on in Australia. I also think there will be a big review over regulating.

The sport is growing but it's getting more competitive. How many people do you know that have retired rich from this industry?

My advice:

Although the industry is exciting and has benefits my best advice is to invest your money elsewhere to earn a living...keep kiting for fun and pleasure dont mix the 2 together...don't mix business with pleasure it's too close a mix.

If you want to be able to kite at the best beaches whenever you want chasing that perfect beach with the perfect wind just make a plan on how you want to do that. Stick with the plan and get some help if you need it. Make your money in another industry that can support your goals.

What "politics of the Kite Surfing industry and the IKO" are you fed up with?

What sort of changes do you want to see?

Stop being cryptic man, tell us what you are talking about!
