I live in Chicago and will visit Sydney from 9/1-18 and want to get in a few sessions. I am at the early stages of research in terms of prevailing winds for September, locations and making a few contacts with kiteboarders. I've been kiting for the past 4 yrs, have all the gear although I am debating what to bring. Just looking for guidance and to meet a few locals.

Thought I would start by reaching out to the kitebaording community in Australia. Check out my local forum and site at www.chicagokitesurfing.com

It would make an awsome vacation to meet some kiteboarders in and around Sydney and get in a session or two. Feel free to contact me directly at [email protected] or I will check back here. I welcome any and all advice on where to meet kiteboarders, where people are going in September, what gear I must bring, etc. I guess I would call myslef an intermediate kiteboarder. I can stay up wind easily and transition turns with ease. I am progressing with throwing some huge airs at the moment...sticking most, but not all. Thanks, Chris

Hey Chris, happy to meet up with you when you arrive OZ. Still a bit early for the seabreezes in Sydney but there is still good winter wind to be had in and around the Sydney area.
I suggest that you bring as much of your quiver as you can as the winds are varying from OK 15 to 20kns to some honking 35 plus southerly's. Wind is still pretty gusty and the temp conditions still require a wetty , however, given you get some pretty cold winters in Chicago you will be fine over here.
Botany Bay is my major flat water stomping ground but there is plenty of surf close by eg. Wanda Beach. AND if you want to travel further South or North for that matter , you will discover some magical spots.

We have a local kite shop , aptly named " KITEPOWER " ( see... www.kitepower.com.au ) run by a bloke who goes by the name of Steve McCormack ( but we all know he is really 'GalahOnThe Bay ' ) ***** see ' Galah to be outed post ' for further info.

I'm sure Steve will join this thread and give you stacks more info as he is possibly the most knowlegable kiter around the bay when it comes to wind and where to kite - plus he's got stacks of gear at his shop and is always willing to let folks test drive his demo stock.

I'll drop you a line on your private email....

cheers
col

ps. DON'T believe Steve if he denies he is the GALAH and tries to throw the title to me .... I'm NOT the GALAH

Chicago and Sydney could almost be sister cities, except Chicago is The Windy City.
