I have some gear stashed there and kite there occasionally Wassaby. Are you looking for flat or waves? I frequent Newport, Huntington, Seal beach the most. Belmont shores and Long Beach are the most popular for flat water and beginners. There are local rules for all beaches (always check with lifeguard towers if no one is out) and a flag system of where you are allowed to surf. I'll paste some links with info about spots and wind seasons.
