G'day all,

Triple J's Hack program last night had an interesting article on kiting (for what I heard of it)

If you go to the J's site there may be a Podcast if you are interested.

Not that exciting. Not the best publicity. Did mention that everyone must have lessons for safety first which is important. definitely didn't sell the sport too well in my opinion which many would be happy about.

If interested, open itunes program, click advanced, subscribe to podcast, paste the link below, wait for it to download then skip to the 24 min mark.

Ahh, so that's what a podcast is. Never had any motivation to investigate them before. Interesting.

They did make it sound fairly "extreme" , but i guess that is a lot better than telling everyone to go buy kites off ebay without lessons.

Quite a well put together piece, especially the way they mentioned the need for lessons,

Thanks
Matt

I thought it was pretty average...If there was no wind, why not have tried again when there was? I agree that might not be a bad thing though in terms of not attracting too many more kiters

I actually thought it was quite good. Im sure the JJJ reporter has a pretty tight schedule with respect to all the other articles he needs to record, and then get back to the studios and produce the articles. Hack gets aired 5 times a week so they need to produce nearly 2.5 hours of articles a week. It was just bad luck that there wasn't enough wind, but that's all part of the sport, like the girl Alex said, the wind is all consuming! Is Alex a member of Seabreeze? It would be good to hear her impression of how she was interviewed.

The need for lessons was also conveyed, and I think the danger side of the sport wasn't over-hyped... Was made to seem no more dangerous than Snowboarding to me.

They also mentioned the kitesurfing event at Merimbula so I think that is good enough promotion of the sport. ie. go and see it for yourself at this day and place... I mean there is only so much an aural medium can convey about what is essentially a visual activity!

I have not had a chance to listen to the article, but from what you guys are saying it ticked the boxes for mentioning safety and getting lessons.

The fact that we got mentioned at all as a sport reinforces the importance of having a national body like AKSA. Triple J contacted the state association (NSWKBA) via the AKSA website as they were doing a series of articles in a certain area. NSWKBA was able to find suitable (they wanted young kiters) people who kite in the area and were willing to do an interview. The reason it had to happen on a certain day and couldn't be postponed till they got wind was the schedule of the report and the segment deadlines.

Well done to the kids who were interviewed.

Cheers
