Hi,
I am going north for the next four days. Strong south westerlies/southerlies forecast. Where would the best kiting spots be in the region? I am staying at trial bay, so that might be ok? I am also staying at scotts head. I was also wondering if around the mouth of the nambucca river might be a fun flat spot?
Thanks
I kited @ Valla (summer NE) a year or so ago and met some of the local crew...
They were telling me they go to Trial bay for winter westerlies. As for Nambucca, if you have a 4wd and a beach driving permit you can drive all the way up to the river mouth from Scotts head. It would be a good spot I reckon.

Thanks, Im staying at trial bay, so fingers crossed!
When does Sawtell best work for wave riding? In a NE on southern side of headland or Southerly on the northern side of the headland? I've checked it a few times but thought the headland would prove a wind shadow in either wind direction. I stay near there over the Christmas break.

i havent kited trial bay in a SW, but have prone foiled there alot in a southerly and the wind feels surprisingly steady and probably better in a SW where it is not blowing over Big Smokey. Would be interested to know how you go...
In terms of other options, having lived at Southie and spending many many hours on google maps there arent very many options.
Your best bet is the northern corners of the long beaches where the coastline faces south east and the SW wind will be cross shore. Try and get it early before it gets massive. Can be very lonely spots to ride with no one around if something goes wrong, make sure you pack your floaties if it picks up.
I have looked at nambucca, the launch spots look sketchy unless you go by 4wd to the southern side of the river mouth, and then if something goes wrong you might end up on an oyster lease.
