Full respect for this effort, pretty amazing as he is still working on the gear.

Wish I could go that fast on my windsurfer.

You do elmo, and 20kms faster.
Elmo has clocked over 60km/h at the estuary in Mandurah.

Your too modest alby

Yeah been looking and following the thread at kiteforum,

His board is real fascinating, did you check the video they posted?

Apparently the board is a "prototype" and he's still tweaking.

Love going fast..we should race, get the GPS out.
Poor Rellie Vs Hardie Vs Elmo, that would be interesting

isn't the world sailing speed record about 49 kts ?? or am i behind the times? does this mean that kites are going to go faster than sailboards?

Yep the WR is in the 49k mark set by Finnian Maynard in 2005

WR's are done on set courses with time keepers so unfortunately in this instance it won't work as a world record.

This feat was done on a Data logging GPS, these units have opened up speed sailing for the ametuer enthusiasts (like me) as it takes a lot of the Bullsh1t factors out and allows you to record data when you want rather than having to go compete in a formal event where the conditions may be far from ideal.

The upside for kiting is that this is still early days development wise, the potential is definately there to be the fastest wind powered craft on water.

I'd be stoked if I could hit 70kmh on my windsurfer.

I'd be scared.

I've seen a guy called kerry, kiting at Melville last year i think, he tucked himself upwind of where the windsurfers go, and would hammer it. water real flat and real shallow

he would honk it along!
wonder whatever happend to Kerry?

I was talking to David the morning after.

we were recovering after the sun morn wave obliteration.
That'e the waves obliterated us.
and watching the test while it was happening.

he was by himself and the conditions switched on, Andrew daff rocked up to check the wind direction just as he was doing the job and then Daff downloaded the data to his computer and emailed it to David.

So he lucked out and not only scored some brillant runs but also credible backup.

In regards to the board, it is surprisingly simple.

best winds
