Someone has died and his mate has barred anyone from talking about it. Fair enough with the condolences side however that is wrong, out of respect he should post what happened to help prevent it from happening again.

Your right we could learn something from this. But maybe we should just show a little bit of compasion and respect. From what I've seen this happened a very very short time ago.

Every post I've seen that tells of what happens is a mess. The posters say very rude and unnecceary things that in no way shape or form are respectfull of the person. Draging out the details of what happened probably won't help those greaving for him.

If they release what happened they do if not that there choice. Check your QR and gear before heading out, kite safe and check the weather.

At this stage we do not know what the problem was. Maybe he had a heart attack or something.

Maybe the kite had nothing to do with it.

having had a close friend spend a month in a coma close to death, I understand the sentiments of the original poster. The last thing you want to deal with in a case like this is people throwing around accusations as to what the person did wrong. Its a difficult enough time for a family having to deal with a lost loved one, they don't need to deal with people who hear third hand about what went wrong and what the person "should have done". Give the family time to deal with their sorrow, the details around the incident will come out when people are ready to deal with them.

Hmmmmm... Flexifoil eh? Might have to reconsider buying that Ion2.

So he released the kite ok, but just didnt manage the swim back. Not totally a kite problem is it? Except perhaps that a kite will take you out further than you can swim. Probably got caught in a rip/undertow. Wind blowing offshore maybe ? We need to know. Inquest will reveal everything anyhow. Its understandable, but naive to just leave the public (like me) to speculate.

Maybe its time to sober up about going too far offshore? I never go offshore without my trusty waterski lifejacket. Sure, it adds weight but ...

Does anyone have any further information about what happened yet? I know his friends have asked for no speculation, but surely enough time has elapsed now?

As previously posted 3 posts above, this link has just enough info to figure it out. --> http://community.flexifoil.com/showthread.php?t=113323

Got into kite trouble offshore, released kite, got into swimming trouble and didnt get back. It is very cold winter water in the UK now - www.bournemouth-surfing.co.uk/ shows the location webcam with current water temperature at 8.2C (this happened Sunday). He could have cramped up???

I read that. "Got into difficulties" wasn't my idea of an explanation. 8.2 deg water is though.

A full report will be released in due time by the BKSA.
It seems its just one of those unfortunate things. It only takes an inch of water to drown - lots of things could be to blame and i dont think anyone is blaming kite, rider or equipment. I dont think we will achieve anything by speculating.
