I am going to Samoa for a holiday end of November and would like to know if anyone has kiteboarded there- if so what are the winds like at this time of year?

Kingmatt,
One of my kids friends families have just gone there for work (2 year contract), if you don't get any replies I will contact him (not a wind sport person) to give you some idea of the local conditions.

Contact JayP, he was there a month ago and got a kite in.

Unfortunately he landed his new vapor on some barbed wire, so that was his only kite for the trip, but he can give you the laydown.

He just posted a thread on an upcoming kitesurf exploratory trip in PNG - get his details from that.

hi Kingmatt

yeah i was there for 2 weeks for the south pacific games. stayed in Apia the whole time. The wind was great for the first week then was a bit soso for the second week. i found that the best time was just after midday. 15-20 knots in the afternoon everyday for the first week.

I kited from the Samoa Yacht club just out of down town apia ( 5min drive), there is no beach but the lagoon is shallow so it is relatively easy to do a drift launch. you can kite upwind to the harbour entrance and catch some waves. the YC also has a great restaurant so hit em up for some lunch if you are there.

another spot to try is Aggie Grey resort out next to the airport. they have a water sports centre and do kite lessons, they also had some gear in the centre too.

I was trying to get to the northern island and go for a kite at one of the surf resorts there, they had a boat that was going to take me out to the reef to hit some of the great waves they get there. I have the ontact e-mail if you want to contact them.

as far as wind in Nov sorry cant help you much. there is a buoyweather.com spot for samoa so you can check the wind and swell forcast.

ahh my poor brand new Vapor..... fixed but i have not had a chance to ride it since.

enjoy.

Have been there a couple times for work....before Kiting Life. There are some spots on the main island from memory that looked great, though on the other side of the island...from memory it was called Boomarang Creek??? A beach/ resort(loosely speaking) with more open beaches, better surf, more wind. Takes an hour or so from Apia and nicer to get out of Apia. Also worth checking out is the smaller island of Savai???(spelling), you catch a ferry over there. Nice beaches, more chilled. A very different cool place, when they talk about the Tribal Council.....they really mean it!! Have Fun
