Ive slowly but surely started to get the symptoms of tennis elbow from kiting this summer .

Has anyone else had this problem from kiting or am I alone here.

Anyone with any remedies, setup ideas etc to help with this, I would be most greatful

Cheers

SHORTEN UR CHICKEN LOOP, IF YOU ARE RIDING WITH UR ELBOWS TOO EXTENDED IT WILL HAPPEN
JUST REMEMBER IF U SHORTEN THE CHICKEN LOOP THEN U NEED TO ALSO ADJUST THE OUTSIDE LINES. (ie SHORTEN THEM BY THE SAME AMOUNT)
A LOT OF NEW BARS THESE DAYS HAVE THESE REALLY LONG CHICKEN LOOPS AND U REALLY DONT NEED THEM.

So,

How much 'travel' do you reckon on the chicken loop.

Id say as I guess theres 20-25cm on mine at the moment

Just 4 short syllables

I - BU - PRO - FEN

Lived on 'em when in Hawaii . You can buy a Jumbo pack of 500 pills for around $19 USD at Longs Drugstore or Safeway!

I have the same problem.

I went and bought a tennis elbow brace from the chemist. Its a moulded strap that goes around the fore arm just below the elbow. It worked for me. I always wear it now.

basically depends on how long ur arms are, do u drag ur knuckles or are u a shortie?
id hav a guess that mine is about 150mm
the best way is dress up in ur harness at home and undo ur lines and put ur chicken loop on and work out what is a comfortable length and what is the max length u cood go without stretchin ur arms out. then set up ur lines so the max or just under ur max is the extent of ur c/l and the comfortable length is either the middle of ur c/l length or ur powerlock depending on how u like to ride.

When flying the kite fully powered up on the beach, pull the chicken loop in until the kite flares out. Make a note of where this point is on the chicken loop. When you get home, measure this distance, undo the chicken rope from the depower strap and cut this distance off from the top or pull it through the eye this distance (so you may re-adjust if necessary). This will obviously shorten the chicken loop and stop the kite from flaring out whne unhooked.

If your gut doesnt like nurofen or ibuprofen etc. you could try "TRAUMEEL" cream. Maybe as well pills if you can take them - may be even better then ?
Its some sort organic anti-inflamatory that works way better for me than the chemical drug rubs.
Only place Ive found it is at my chiro 'Burswood Health Professionals'. I dont think chemists stock it ?

Hi

Loose Fin, Carl is right this has been covered serveral times before.

A search on "tennis elbow" produces a long list, key entries are part of ID 853 from Dr Niall Barrett, giving the Bio Medical science, lots of advice on setting your lines to the right length in various postings, and Carl's posting pre-xmas ID 4187 on stretching after Kiting. All top advice.

The pain killers will only mask the problem, not solve it!

For the radical (just joking) solution, then there is Ian Young's "pressureless" bar (end of ID 853) which should be feasible for any kite with a bit of thought and ingenuity.

The other issue this posting raises, is these postings offer a great resource, in terms of lessons learnt, knowledge exchanged, etc. Laurie suggested putting some of this sort of material that will come up again and again into a FAQ area, but this doesn't seem to have happened..... over to you Laurie

Cheers

A forum user put his hand up for the job a couple of weeks ago and is currently getting the FAQ together .. should be online soon.

Thanks .. Lozza
