Hi there

Well, I was in Exmouth for a week in February a couple years ago and would love to get back there.

The kitesurfing spots in the Cape Range Nationalpark were not real - very beautiful. Terrific beaches, super clear water, Kiting with turtles and rays - just a dream. I stayed mainly in the Cape Range Nationalpark and found that I never had a more relaxing holiday than then (some people might think it's boring but when you can kite from 11am through to 4-5pm I guess you don't need much of a nightlife) Snorkelling in the mornings in one of the bays was awesome as well.
An on top, not many kiters and touris.

But I don't know anything about the weather in Exmouth in July.

Good luck anyway! And let us know!!

I've been to Bali in Jul a few times
You get wind most days, but it needs to be in tune with the tides if you are inside the lagoons

You also need bigger kites as the strength is closer to 15knts than 20

If you are into the surf go & play outside the club med in Sanur
There is a neat place to launch & you can either hit the flat water or surf the RH break called Sri Lanka (where the angles are perfect)

Did a sailing trip to Phuket in Jul as well.
The winds are very variable 50% nothing, then a squall, then some wind
I would choose Bali over Phuket

Not Bali-too fickle and winds are too light generally.

Those in N Qld may be able to confirm that the SE trades have kicked in by then-could be a good bet-seeing as you seem to want tropical and flat water and not averse to staying in OZ.

I would pick Sanur over any of them. I went last year for 25 days and got 23 days kiting, the wind was clean and even a few days my dad was riding my 9. You set up on the grass walk 10 metres on the sand to the water and off you go. Even if there isnt any wind for a day, there is so much more to do.

actually exmouth does get a fair few LIGHT wind days during july. Ive been up there the last 4-5 yrs during this time just on a holiday with the wife. Of the 15-20 days we usually get up there, id say I kite at least every 2nd day, if not every. Of those days only 2-5 would actually hit 20 knots. The mornings get the easterly in the gulf side, and lots of days get afternoon winds either SW or northerlys. Wind is a bit everywhere. But atleast on a SW or N you get to kite at graveyards/sandy bay. Since going up there Ive had several large downwinders from dunes surf break to ningaloo homestead, heaps of room/sealife/reef breaks to find, been out to Yardi creek, and lots of other fun kites at other spots.

Having said this, the gulf is not a great kite spot, no waves and often quite choppy, and winds are usually quite light. Easterly wind is strongest early morning, dropping out around 10-11am. I go up there for a relaxing holiday and a kite is just a bonus... but ive had alot of luck in recent years and usually only see 1-2 other kiters.

Not a great kite spot in July (i cant compare to other spots as I keep going back to exmouth, its hard to turn down), but if you go, definitely take a few kites and expect to be on the water majority of days in mixed conditions.

Hope this helps
